Easy Lawn Maintenance Tip: Forget About It in Glacier View Meadows!

Easy Lawn Maintenance Tip:  Forget About It in Glacier View Meadows!

couple walking in forestIt was a long winter.  I heard you spent way too much time with your snow shovel last season!  Many Coloradoans are shoveling today after the last Spring storm dumped several inches of new snow upon us!

THE GOOD NEWS: soon, your snow shovel will be forgotten.

THE BAD NEWS: other shovels, rakes, lawn mowers, trowels and assorted implements of extreme backache are waiting to take their rightful place in front again.

I realize some folks like all that hard work; I used to be one of them.  Nothing gave me more pleasure than watching the sprinklers go round over our beautiful, freshly mowed lawn; the battle of the unruly lawn won for another day.

BUT, if you have grown tired of the battle and all that yard work doesn't seem so appealing anymore, there are several things you could do instead:

1) Hire a gardener or a landscape maintenance company

2) "Plant" your lot in gravel and concrete

3) Move to an apartment or another subdivision where the outside maintenance is taken care of for you by the Homeowners' Association.

4) Check into Xeriscape and natural plantings that do not require a lot of maintenance or water

OR, MY FAVORITE IDEA:

5) MOVE TO A MOUNTAIN SUBDIVISION!   (Like Glacier View Meadows)   and say goodbye to endless landscaping chores.

MOTHER NATURE IS THE MAIN GARDENER HERE!

:-)

.

At our house, we  still mow and weed whack occasionally, for fire protection and appearance - but it is nothing compared to the continual maintenance of a lush green lawn and gardens - (which by the way I still appreciate greatly when driving through the town.)

.

At the end of the day, you can sit on your deck with a nice cold beverage and know you made the right decision to give up all that yard work and enjoy life in the summer again.

wild flower seed packeetIf that's not enough, there are no public sidewalks in the residential areas.

When old man winter comes back around, or on a Spring snow day like today, you won't need to worry about that snow shovel either!

~

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner - wouldn't it be nice to know that you could use your fishing pole a lot more than the lawn mower and the shovels?

~

Maybe this Spring, it's time to "plant yourself" in a beautiful natural environment!

Hi Mary...I loved the positive picture you've painted for us of Glacier View Meadows.  I even love the name of that subdivision.  The word "meadow" conjures up a wonderful feeling in me.

Hey, great advertisement for Glacier View Meadows.  Who wouldn't want to stop the never ending battle of weeding and mowing and enjoy the beauty without the work.

You know... I used to love gardening and cutting grass too.  No longer.  Mother nature can certainly create a beautiful landscape too.

Hi Marjorie, Thanks for coming by today, I appreciate it!

Hi Shirley, I'm all for xeriscape too, I have seen some beautiful gardens in Fort Collins using that technique.  As for the beautiful green lawns, I agree, I like to look at them too, I just don't like to care for them anymore :-)  Thanks Shirley, I'm glad you came by, it's always nice to see you!

Hi Mike, I hear you, get those kids out there! LOL  You know, I used to enjoy all of it, and then I just lost interest and it became more like work instead of fun!  I like your two first choices the best :-)  Thanks for your thoughts and for stopping in today, Mike!

Hi Nick, You guys know exactly what I'm talking about! ...and you get to see all the green mowed grass on the golf course!  Thanks Nick, I'm glad you stopped in!

Hi Craig,  I agree with you, I think a natural landscape is beautiful, and anything that leaves more time for relaxing and enjoying that frosty beverage life is priceless!  It's always nice to see you Craig, thanks!

Thanks Kate!  I appreciate your thoughts on it.  I like the word "meadow" too, now that you mention it :-)  I'm glad you stopped by tonight!

Hi Lou, Yes, Spring is here!  March is one of our snowiest months and we have the snow to prove it!  :-)  Thanks for stopping in Lou, I'm glad you did!

Hi Stacey, I agree, it's a good reason! :-)  I'm with you, I can't wait to see the wildflowers it seems like it's been a lonnnnnnnnnng time! Thanks Stacey, it's nice to see you!

Hi Jane, That's my question - who would not want that!!?  I know many people love their yards, but in Glacier View Meadows we just have "different" ones. :-)  Thanks for your thoughts on it, I appreciate it Jane!

Hi Tammy, I think Mother Nature does a great job.  I love the smell of cut grass, that's about the only thing I miss! LOL  Thanks Tammy, glad you stopped in!

What gorgeous wildflowers! Lots of folks do find great pleasure in working in the garden, while others find pleasure blogging or surfing the web. There's a lid for every pot, and Glacier Meadows sounds like a great community!

Ah some great advice here Mary !

I too used to love paying attention to my lawn and garden, but as time does not permit so much these days, I shall be hiring a gardener to tend to and make my lawn gorgeous this spring and summer !!!

Mary, you make me jealous! Well, maybe not, my Grandparents lived in the hills of California and the yardwork was minimal but the snakes were not! You had to watch for them everywhere!

Mary - I often have thought the perfect living situation, would be a little log cabin up the road about 45 miles along highway 50.  The area is cradled in the arms of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, and has tall pine trees.  All one would need is a pile of firewood.  The landscape is trees, pine needles on the ground, and native plants. . .No lawn mower needed.  The area gets snow only every once in awhile, and isn't so much that it would be difficult to deal with!

Hi Rich, I will meet you and we'll find a place for all of your stuff:-)

Hi Myrl, It sounds very much like Glacier View Meadows, and like a very nice place to live.  I think your tree, was his name Fred? would want to move there too!

Hi Sandy, It is really nice, when we first moved here, it took me awhile to leave my city-self behind.  I wanted to have flowers and soon realized the deer thought I was serving a salad bar! HAHA!  Enjoying the natural environment has been good.

Hi Evelyn, Yikes!  I don't like snakes, I've seen only 2 snakes in 14 years up here...but there are some rattlesnakes in the area and we make a lot of noise when walking in the grasses.  They are more afraid of us than we are of them :-)

Hi Caren, I agree with you - those are promising words "Summer is just around the corner"  so, no matter if we want to toil in the garden or not, warmer weather is coming and that will feel sooooooooooo nice! :-)

Thank you Dorie, I realize not everyone can adjust to a landscape without a green lawn, but I hope those who are tired of it will email me :-)

Charles, It's almost impossible to find the time to tend to a lawn when you are working all the time - best to hire it out :-)

Sheldon, You've got the right idea to hire it out ( since I didn't talk you into moving here) LOL!

LOL Carol!  You're right about the weeds they flourish in any environment - we have to keep after those guys too!

Hi Melissa, I like your saying "There is a lid for every pot" :-) Many people still do enjoy their gardening, it's true ...

Thanks everyone for stopping by, I'm glad to see you!

What I love about mountain life!  We cannot create a garden as beautiful as a meadow full of wildflowers, surrounded by pines and spruce, and the occasional aspen for variety!  When we lived on our 5 acres, we had a meadow, a rock ridge, and a tiny patch of "lawn".  Literally, about 10' by 10' with green mowable grass that I could walk on barefoot or sit on a blanket and read. Xeriscaping, (which started in Denver!), is so much better for the environment, and our backs!

Hi Cheryl,  Thanks for leaving this comment, I think you're right, we can't create anything as beautiful by ourselves.  I confess, I would love just a little patch of lawn for barefeet :-)  Xeriscape is far better for our environment, my parents used the same amount of water just in one summer on their lawn as we consume in an entire year here.  Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier- thanks again Cheryl!
