New Hampshire's own Gary Hirshberg, CE-Yo of Stonyfield Farms (organic yogurt) has more than a farmer's green thumb. He's got a penchant for all things green. Last year Gary started "Climate Counts",  so that folks would know where to shop to support large companies that are doing their part to slow global warming.

By studying the large companies that provide us with most of our everyday products (household, food, apparel...), Climate Counts can give us their results so that we can shop responsibly. The winning companies were judged by "their climate 'footprint', their impact on global warming, their support of progressive climate legislation, and publicly disclosed their climate actions clearly and comprehensively."

stonyfield yogurtThanks, Gary Hirshberg for thinking globally and acting locally!

And your yogurt is awesome too. Hey, where do you get green cows?

These are actually very cool plastic containers useful for leftovers that happen to come with delicious yogurt inside. Ummm...

Hi Sue, This is a very interesting service.  With what is happening in our world now...it's an idea whose time has come.  Every little bit matters.

Hi Sue:  New Hampshire has been a little bit slow getting GREEN.  This is a great incentive for our NH business to get recognition.  I have a friend who does a lot of the "piping" "plumbing" work for Stoneyfield and this company is leading the way in many respects.  BRAVO!  -- However, I must admit, I am not sure that I am ready for "GREEN" yogurt!  (hee hee)

Sue~

I'm not sure if I am ready for GREEN yogurt, either...but love the idea of eco-wise companies and thanks for letting-us know about them! Maybe we should add this category to our GREEN RESOURCES Directory? Let me know??

Sue thanks for posting.  I've book marked and will read it tomorrow.  Proctor and Gamble?  Oh gee, those people are still testing their products on animals.  I don't find that particularly earth friendly.  Also, are you putting a link on your website?  I hesitate to do that sometimes because people who check out my site aren't looking for a lecture, but then again if the issue is important its one way to get the message out.

Joan, Cow-Hampshire has come a long way in recent years, I guess the consumers are demanding it. I heard  Gary Hirshberg speak at a Business Entrepreneurial Course he offered a few months ago. Smart and down to earth kind of guy.

Thanks for reading this Joan.

Terry, I can't answer your Proctor & Gamble question, but in my blog I wrote:  The Climate Counts website has this to offer about their own accountability: "GreenOrder, a leading sustainability strategy firm, provided strategic guidance on the Climate Counts program, assisted in the development of the scoring system, and verified the scoring results for accuracy."

I understand that putting a link to an organization in your blog/website can be a risk of offending a reader. But I think visual reminders of what we can do as individuals to help our planet is a good thing.

Thanks for your great comment, Terry!
