This afternoon I had the pleasure (?)of visiting our local airport again (McCarran International Airport). When you live in Las Vegas it seems like there is ALWAYS a chance to spend some time there...picking up visitors, dropping them off....today I was picking up my son. Robert drives here from a little 'hick' town in Yuma, AZ (they don't have a big airport) and flies out of here. It's a 300 mile drive, or he could drive to Phoenix, which is a 180 mile drive. He kills 2 birds with one stone...makes his parents happy and then leaves on vacation. This time he was coming back from vacation and will head back to Yuma Friday morning.
Anyway, I was also able to kill 2 birds with one stone today by driving my friend/ex-client to the airport at the almost identical time that I needed to pick up Robert. I was glad it worked out this way, as hanging out in the airport is not one of my favorite things to do, neither is driving there twice in one day. She had to be there by 5pm, Rob's plane landed at 5:30pm....PERFECT.
So, sitting in the airport I get to 'people watch'...I do have to say I enjoy this. It's amazing to me the different people types there are...all races, all sizes, all shapes. Everyone is different...but we're all the same too. Girls with tatoos from neck to ankle, guys with big hoop earrings and Mohawks, people with their noses in the air (like they are too good for this) and others who are friendly and talkative. Everybody going someplace or coming back from someplace. It just amazes me! I had an opportunity to strike up conversations with a few and was even able to hand out a couple of business cards...never know!
The airport in Las Vegas is different than many in this country...upscale shops, some nice dining places, slot machines in the luggage pick-up area, as well as marques for all the shows currently in town...flashing away, some with sound, some without....it's an interesting place to visit.
The airport will be moving and expanding in a few years as one is being built in Ivanpah (which is close to the California/Nevada border...about 30-40 miles outside of Las Vegas...McCarran Airport will stay as a commuter airport. But it won't be the same!

We have just come off our trip and did lots of people watching in airports. We spent most of yesterday hanging out at airports. You most definitely see a diverse group of people at an airport, whether it be in St. Thomas, San Juan, Newark or Houston. We hit all 4 of those yesterday.
