Jim, that is classic! I'm sure you didn't see anyone using them either, eh? I guess if a community wanted to stifle any cell-towers, they could capitalize on the use of pay phones.
I remember my first cell phone. I should have taken a picture of that!

It does seem strange that pay phones have primarily gone the way of the dodo bird. There are certain things that I never expected to stay around (anyone else remember computer punch cards?) but pay phones always seemed to me to be something we'd see for a long time.
The world does change on us!
I can't say when the last time was that I saw payphones anywhere at all! Probably at the Mall lining the wall to the bathrooms. No one was using those either...
