Sacramento Farmers Markets by Myrl Jeffcoat
(Slide Show contains 10 images)

What a stunning Saturday, we are having here in Sacramento.  A perfect morning for bringing out and dusting off that old ritual of heading down to the back parking lot, of Sunrise Mall, to visit the local Farmers' Market.  The market traditionally gathered there each Saturday from 8:00 AM - Noon.   But when I arrived, not a soul was in sight!

Knowing something was wrong, I returned home, hit the internet, which advised from their website a new location for the Saturday morning market.  Fortunately for me, the new location at Sunrise Station (Folsom and Sunrise Blvd) in the Light Rail Parking Lot, is a couple miles closer to my home.

At the market this morning, the smell of fresh baked bread from Sacramento Bakery, and fresh brewed coffee from the little vendor in the next stand, blended delightfully with the fresh flowers and found home on the breeze.

It is always a special treat visiting the Bariani Olive Oil stand.  Mr. Bariani always greets with cries of "Good Morning," or it's equivalent in Italian.  His voice sounds like wonderful music bellowing from a cello.  I'm a fairly serious cook, so often need his wares.  Purchasing Bariani Olive Oil is much more than buying fine product - it's indulging in a special experience.

This morning, the strawberries and asparagus looked especially nice.

Melinda - I really do too!  Everything feels so positive in that kind of environment!  And your right - the prices are reasonable!

Shirley - I often think I am very fortunate to live where I do!

Toula!  Thank you!  And yes, Spring is my favorite part of the year!

Hi Myrl,

How wonderful! I wish I had a real Farmers Market here where I live. I feel like I could support one single handedly, Well my eyes are really too big when it comes to produce and flowers. I want it all of course. But if I did have one, just knowing I could go with regularity would calm all that down, LOL. Great photo of the flowers. I have been so busy but with the longer days, it will be so much easier to out and start capturing the magic.

Like you, I was able to get out this afternoon in 80 degree temp and dragged took along the Nikon to see what I could see. Drove the 22 miles to downtown and decided to hit Seaport Village and see what was going on there. Walked along the Bay and then over to where the Midway Aircraft Museum was moored . The Public arts along the walk way were amazing. We are really blessed in this state with all the great vistas and things to look at, aren't we.

Ok - that does it! Now I'm mad that we still have snow and you have Farmers Markets!  LOL   Wow, this is just a glimpse of what's to come and I am looking forward to it!  Your photos are just fantastic Myrl! We purchased some California strawberries just last week and they were delicious.

Yum, the strawberries look really sweet! I don't know about the naval oranges, though. The sign says "new crop." Unless they come from Florida, the season for naval oranges in Sacramento was over in January.

William - I have come upon a method to my madness when it comes to hauling cameras around.  My little point and shoot is nearly always with me in my purse.  However, I am beginning to also carry the camera bag with the Nikon D90 and all the lenses more and more, when I know I'm going someplace that may have interesting things to photograph!  That was the case this morning when I went to the Farmers Market.  By the way - I'm becoming really partial to the 18 x 105 lens.  It's pretty versatile.

Mary - When the strawberries and asparagras showed up on the market scene, I knew that spring had arrived.

John - I use Paint Shop Pro's "Animation Wizard".  I posted a tutorial for it which can be accessed at:

Sharon - The artichokes were beautiful - and some of them were very large.

Elizabeth - I noticed that they were from the "Mountain Area" - They can come in a little later than we do here in the Valley.  I tasted a sample of them and they were wonderfully sweet.  Definitely not "old crop."

Hi Myrl........that was fun as far as vicarious can go.  Great pictures, yummy baked goods.....but you really got me with the olive oil.  I really must come over and sample your "fairly serious cooking".  My mouth is watering already.  I like this post a lot :-)  Did you save me some soup?

Hi Mryl,  I really liked your post.  All the photos looked wonderful!  I'm new to AR and have been trying to learn all I can.  What was the technique you used to flash the slide show -- can you do that by using PowerPoint on a post?
