Mother Lode Happenings

April 3-4, 2010

Wow! March went by fast. The great spring weather has me outdoors getting my garden ready for planting. Here are some fun things coming in April:

Railtown 1897 State Historic Parksteam train

Railtown in Jamestown will begin steam train operations for 2010 on Saturday and Sunday, April 3 and 4. Once under way, steam-powered excursion trains will depart on-the-hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends through October. On opening weekend only, residents of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties ride for free with proof of residency. For more information, call 209-984-3953 or visit www.railtown1897.org.

Victorian Easter Celebration

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Victorian Easter Celebration on Sunday, April 4, in Columbia State Historic Park. The Victorian Easter Parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. and egg hunts will start Main Street in Columbia State Historic Parkat noon. All events are free. For more information call 209-536-1672 or visit www.columbiacalifornia.com.

We are so lucky to have two State Historic Parks located right here in Tuolumne County. So come on out, enjoy a train ride, put on a fancy Easter bonnet and support your local state parks!

Thank you for the information!  I'll be in Sonora next weekend for Easter, we'll take our granddaughter to Columbia for the parade.  Who doesn't love a parade?

Cynthia, Many locals attend the parade dress in Victorian era garb. Everyone wears Easter bonnets and it really is a great time. There are a lot of activites for kids also.

I absolutely love the Mother Lode town of Columbia. . .It's about as authentic of an Old West experience as you can get!  I can imagine being there for Easter would be wonderful!
