Downtown Oakville - Historic, Unique and Waiting For You

Oakville's main downtown runs along Lakeshore, one of the oldest roads in Ontario.
Traveling along you can't help but notice the rich history and beautiful architecture of the buildings, many of which have been preserved for over a century.

Culture and adventure await you in Oakville's downtown with 450 wonderful shops to search for treasures in or experience one of the finest restaurants that Ontario has to offer.

Within walking distance of Downtown Oakville is the Oakville Heritage District, which abounds with heritage homes that still look the same today as they did when they were first built by many of Oakville's original inhabitants.

Downtown Oakville is not far from Lake Ontario and the maritime history of the area can be found throughout the region.

With fabulous bakeshops, cafes, boutiques and covering over 6 city blocks, downtown Oakville attracts thousands of tourists and residents alike.

In 2010, Downtown Oakville will host numerous festivals and events. Midnight Madness, the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival and A Taste of Downtown Oakville are celebrations which bring out people of all ages and from every region of the world.

The Main branch of the Oakville Public Library is also found in Downtown Oakville, as are grocery stores, spas, sports stores and men's, ladies and children's clothing boutiques.

If  you're looking for a special gift for someone special, be sure to drop by one of Downtown Oakville's many fine gift shops. You'll find a treasure that will be loved for years to come.

Looking for a wonderful adventure? Plan on visiting Downtown Oakville sometime soon.

Jp,

Downtown Oakville is the best example of a BIA success story in Ontario. THe thought was the downtown would be devastated with the opening of Oakville Place.

Hi Jo,

History, cafes and bake shops - it seem like the most dangerous combination... to a waist that is.

Jo, I just love spending an afternoon exploring downtown Oakville. I wish they could have done the same thing with Burlington's core.

Brian,

I believe the heritage feel and proximity of the lake has a lot to do with it....maintaining all of the old buildings downtown attracts many tourists who enjoy sightseeing....
