Why I do Wordless Wednesdays and Silent Sundays, Localism!
I love photography. Since my first camera at camp in the fourth grade through Jr. High where I learned how to develop film and make prints to today's digital cameras and editing software, it's always been a fun thing for me to do.
Second, the majority of my photos are local, some extremely local like my back yard, driveway or trees in my yard. I post most of them in "localism" highlighting things around Sammamish, King County or the State of Washington. I am a fan of my region of the country and I like to highlight some aspects of the Northwest that I enjoy.
Third, it helps me maintain the discipline of blogging. It's not unusual to suddenly realize "it's Wednesday or Sunday, I haven't got my post up yet!"
I'm writing about other things too. I have a series called Home Buying, 12 Steps and the Serenity Prayer, I post mortgage rates every Monday & Friday, and I post listings; my own or others I find interesting.
Why do I put words into my posts which are supposed to be "Wordless" or "Silent"? I didn't initially, but the folks at Active Rain have a rule, a post must contain at least 50 words to count for points. Points are another motivator and discipline tool that I find helps me to stay at this blogging thing. So, I try to provide a few words to explain the shot, how I took it or why I think it's meaningful to the viewer.
There are several photography groups you can join to share, learn and get inspiration. I post to some of these groups, to local expert and to the NW Realtors as well. You don't need to be a pro photographer to present your images. Snap some pictures of your favorite local spots, seasonal changes or something inspiring or informational to share. See you on Sundays & Wednesdays.
