When I first signed up with T-mobile a couple of years ago, they had a web mail component to the Blackberry service that was really handy for one specific feature. Logged into the webmail service, I could build filters that would screen out any of the emails that I didn't want forwarded to my berry. Things like rate sheets, newsletter subscriptions, etc. It really cut down on the number of items that made it to my phone, which was really helpful, because, I mean, I want to see those newsletters and rate sheets, but on my computer, not on my handheld. They were just clogging things up.
Well that system worked so well they quit doing it. About a year and a half ago they took away the webmail component entirely. When I called Support and frantically asked, "What about my filters?" they politely replied that I could build filter on the Blackberry itself. I tried and you can't. I called them back and screeamed at them about it... I finally gave up and resigned myself to receiving 200 emails a day to my blackberry, about 30-40 of which matter if I'm away from my desk.
Last night, I was on the phone with T-Mobile Blackberry Support resolving a little issue I was having (which is now fixed), and mentioned offhand how much I missed the old webmail service because of the filters. Marcia (the Support person) says, "Oh we have that! Just go to My T-Mobile, log in, look to the lower left and click on "email accounts". Once you're there, click on "filters", and have at it."
Well I did. I spent about an hour building filters this morning. I can already see a huge disparity between what is going into Outlook versus what is going to my Blackberry. The key items repating to Temecula Real Estate and Mortgage are going to be a lot easier to find from now on...
Hallelujah!
Regardless of who your provider is, find out if they have this feature and how to utilize it. You won't regret it...
