Moving to St Charles, IL- Restaurants

Moving from Chicago to St Charles was a leap of faith…at least from a culinary standpoint. My wife and I (and now our son) are foodies. We love food. We love ALL food. Those who have lived in or visited a world class culinary city such as Chicago would understand. Personally, I would put St Charles, IL up against any one of the city restaurants, anytime. St Charles and its surrounding areas have INDEPENDENT restaurants which cater to every taste. I mention independent, as I am not speaking of Olive Garden or Applebee’s as a cultural Mecca. Here are a few of Jen and my St Charles favorites, as well as some surrounding Geneva, Illinois fare:

Burgers and Pub Food

Filling Station

This is one of our favorites. The restaurant is built into an old service station. It has great burgers and appetizers. It has a great beer garden and which allows for great people watching. It’s a great biker hangout.

Beehive

I love this place. It has a great back room separate from the bar. It is child friendly and has one of the best Grouper sandwiches I have had.

Pub 222

Has a great outdoor dining section and great food. Kid friendly and great service!

Real time Sports

This place has spectacular food. Everything is supersized and excellent tasting. I would suggest the nacho plate and the stuffed burgers. Saturday’s often have local and national bands play. If you are into sports, this has one of the largest and largest amount of televisions tuned to the game of your choice.

Rookies

Try one of their burgers, sandwiches, salads, perfect pizzas, \BBQ ribs or chicken, spicy Mexican, pasta, steaks and more. There are also over 30 appetizers and a sports bar with a wide variety of domestic, imported and draft beers to choose from. They have 28 TVs with all the sports packages.

Fine Dining

Franchesca’s

This is one of our favorite places. We don’t frequent as much as we used to, since our son was born, but it is fabulous contemporary Italian food. Great for a date night!

Harvest

Located in the unique & fitting setting of a stylishly renovated barn, Harvest offers traditional regional cuisine with a twist, outstanding steaks & seafood & original seasonal fare.

Al Capone’s Hideaway

As the name suggests, it is hidden off the beaten path on the Fox River. For great steaks, wines, microbrews, spirits, premium cigars and more, Al Capone's Hideaway & Steakhouse is right out of the Roaring 20's. This place is made by the ambiance and history of Al Capone and the 20’s Chicago.

Wildwood

Has a great Oyster Bar and Fantastic cooking classes available.

Niche

Niche is one of the best restaurants in the Chicago metro area. It has outstanding food, wonderful service, and a great wine list. The dining room is relaxing and comfortable. This is a fabulous dining experience

Villa Verone

Quaint little restaurant with casual atmosphere, Service is great. Food was very good, served hot and portions were large.

Mexican

Jalapeno Grill

The Jalapeno Grill is wonderful, not only is the food excellent, you get it hot and fast. My wife suggests the Chile Rellenos, they are one of a kind.

Sergio’s Cantina

Sergio’s has a great brunch and outdoor seating. The food is excellent.

Asian

Sushi Yama

Best place we have eaten for sushi! The Sakura Roll is my favorite. You have to try this place out. We love sushi, and are constantly searching for a great sushi spot. Sushi Yama is our first choice every time.

Taste of Himalayas

Great Indian and Nepali cuisine! The restaurant is very nice, clean, and the staff friendly, courteous and knowledgeable.

Pizza and Ribs

Gino’s

Gino’s is a Chicago tradition. It is synonymous with Chicago Style Pizza

Nick’s Pizza

Is situated in an old barn and serves some of the best pizza in town. The shells of free peanuts litter the floor. Nick’s has one of the most outstanding collections of stuffed creatures throughout the restaurant.

Salt Creek BBQ

Salt Creek has really great barbeque. Serves great pulled pork sandwiches as well

Breakfast

Colonial Cafe

Colonial is the quintessential breakfast and family restaurant. The most down home service you will find. It has delicious food and large portions. Also it boasts tasty ice cream creations like “The Kitchen Sink”.

Nosh

Fabulous food, wonderful atmosphere and the owners make you feel right at home!

Very nice! Let's see, what would I add? Corfu's is great for kids, good kiddie menu for breakfast. Silverlake for takeout Chinese, Sczechuan House for takeout or sitdown. Oh, and a plug for Qdoba Grill, next to the east side Walgreens is pretty new but has been very good for takeout. I must be a Realtor-mom, all the food is takeout!

Great post, keep it up.

When processing the sheer numbers of restaurants, I decided to go with the ones I have personal reference of.  I think it would be nice to develop a complete guide to St Charles- including the arts, entertainment and dining not mentioned here!
