It is human nature when you see an animal, you want to feed it. At Hartstene Pointe we have rules that both protect the wildlife but protect us, the humans as well.
We are blessed by the abundance of wildlife there is in Washington State and what better case in point than at Hartstene Pointe. We have;
- Chipmunks
- Squirrels
- Possum
- Raccoons
- Red Fox
- Sea Otters
- A resident herd of Deer
- Bald Eagles
These animals and birds are not dependent on humans for their existence and we try to keep it that way. When we feed these animals we make them dependant on a food source that is only present for the time you are present. Sunflower seeds, nuts and the like are not native to Hartstene Pointe and can mess up the fragile Eco system that makes the Pointe a desirable place to visit and live.
A danger that many do not think of is a mother protecting its young. When you or your child step between a mother and her youth, nature has instilled a protective mechanism and you don’t want to interrupt. Don’t be afraid to observe the beauty of nature.
We not only have not feed the wildlife on purpose, we must be careful that we protect them from our garbage and pet food. My kids will never forget when we were hiking, the western sunset trail, at Hartstene Pointe and witnessed a Raccoon feeding frenzy on the deck of one of the view homes, off the trail. Upon further investigation we found a pet auto feeder set to open at 5 PM every night. Nobody was home, no pets were present but 30 to 40 Raccoons were fighting and making a mess of the deck, furniture, and window screens every night until the auto feeder ran out of food.
We all appreciate nature and the animals that co- inhabit the Pointe with us. If you would be interested in purchasing property for recreation or retirement, please call or e-mail me and experience the wonders of Hartstene Pointe first hand…
