I often like to hide messages in my pictures using mouseover text, and recently I had a couple of requests to teach people how to put mouseover text with their pictures.
It's really pretty simple but it is not necessarily intuitive.
Place your mouse over any picture, hold it steady for about a second, and if there is an mouseover text, it will magically appear. For example, scroll down to the bottom picture of Zoey the Cool Cat, hold your mouse steady over the picture, and you should see this:
Here's how you do it:
- Click on the little oak tree icon to start uploading your picture to ActiveRain.
- An "Insert/edit image" box will pop up. Click on the little icon to the right of the Image URL box to browse on your computer and find the image you want to upload:
- Another window will open up. Click on the Browse button and find your picture file. They can only be jpg, png, or gif files, so if you have a tif or bmp file, you'll have to convert it. You can do that with Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photopaint, or any of the many free programs on the Internet. Just Google "bmp file conversion" or "graphics file conversion."
- Once you find your file, double click on it and your window should look something like this, with the name of your file in the box. If it does, click on "Upload Photo."
- Now you're ready for your mouseover text, and this is the part that's not necessarily intuitive. You should now have a window that looks like the following. The image description box is where you'll put the text that you want in your mouseover. As far as I know, your mouseover text is limited to 255 characters.
- That's it! You're finished! Now whenever someone holds their mouse over your picture, they'll get your mouseover text. Try it on any of the pictures in this post!
