Though it is often easy to focus on the newer communities in Prince William County tucked just off the main roads are a number of well established communities that should be on your list of neighborhoods to explore. One of those is the neighbhorhood of Occoquan Forest just minutes from the Prince William County Parkway and across the river from Fairfax County.
For home buyers who are looking for property that is not the usual brick front colonials then Occoquan Forest may just be what you are looking for. The Occoquan Forest neighborhood has just over 200 contemporay style homes tucked on lots loaded with trees. Almost all of the homes have wood siding and plenty of windows across the back to take in the wooded views. The neighborhood has it's own private park on the Occoquan River. It is great spot for owners to launching a kayak, fish for dinner or having a summer evening picnic. 
Streets are winding and don't have sidewalks but with no through streets it is safe to get out and stroll through the neightorhood. Owners who have settled into the neighborhood on one of the side streets often "trade-up" to a waterfront home later on. As a result many times the homes with water views do not come on the market.
Even though the neighborhood seems worlds away it is only a few miles from shopping and resturants at the Prince William County Center. Commuters heading to DC can head to the park and ride lot at the Prince William County Stadium.
