Just finished watching a video on TED by Gary Vaynerchuk titled "Doing What You Love" but is more about this new era of doing business in Web 2.0. If you can get past the cursing, I really like what he is saying. No shame, no excuses, and do not blink. Make it happen with everything you have! I admire his passion and straight talk.
Another point he made about this new era of business is something more suttle even though he did mention it. Transparency - With the advent of social media and a new way of doing business, you have to lay it all on the line; put yourself out there unashamed and bare your soul. People want raw authenticity, not polished and focus group approved.
One point that I want to make here is that if you are willing and have a passion to do so, laying it all on the line on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain etc.) opens up the doors to the world in a way never before possible in history. People historically have seen America as the land of opportunity and the level playing field. A place where anyone could make it regardless of their ethnicity, background, religion, education, status etc.
The internet using Social Media is the new frontier. A place where Ron Paul can raise over 4 million dollars in less than 24 hours, where Ford can promote a new vehicle launch to 8 million users without paying for a single ad and using only social media. Its where you can laser focus your marketing to only a group who only eats a certain kind of food and only buys it here. Those people want to stay tuned into the latest changes and updates on the internet where everything is optional.
I dont have to read about that, watch that, or wait through anything to get to my content. I can click you off and load you up. The people, the buyer, user, subscriber, reader - We have all the power! There is no shame in shopping for a few hours and then leaving your full shopping cart in the middle of the store then clicking off the page. I can share you with a friend across the world instantly or I can tell everyone how terrible or great you are on Facebook and hundreds people who trust my opinion will read it within a few hours. I just read about a Facebok app called getunvarnished.com read about it here where you can review professionals anonymously and the review will never be taken down!
So what to do? Realize that most people will not understand and human nature is to bring others down. Get out of your comfort zone and go for it. Hustle! You only get one shot at life and you will fail but how fast and the manor in which you get up is what separates most people from the ones that keep at it until they get it right.
