CCISD - New Graduation Requirements (Clear Creek Independant School District)

One more reason to live in CCISD!!  This new change is such a great decision and will allow the schools to give a more focused direction for students who seek opportunities to focus on their specific areas of interest.  Instead of a more rigid electives schedule, our students will now be able to make better use of these credits as a springboard into their next ventures!  Additionally, it will help the district better accomodate students coming from other districts due to family relocation from other areas of Texas. For more information, read the letter from the district Superintendent.

March 25, 2010

Dear Clear Creek ISD Students and Families,

During the summer of 2009, the 81st Legislative Session concluded with the passing of House Bill 3. This bill included changes in the graduation requirements for high school students in Texas. The intent of the Law was to allow for more flexibility in student elective choices but gave the local districts flexibility to maintain more requirements in the elective areas.

At the regular Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, March 22, 2010, our board members approved the local graduation requirement policy to align to the recent state recommendations as outlined in House Bill 3. All three graduation plans still maintain the same number of credits but allow for students to have more elective choices. Health, one half credit in Physical Education, and Technology Applications are now elective choices and no longer required for graduation.

CCISD believes strongly in a broad scope of curriculum offerings for students and will continue to offer those courses. Two major factors considered by the Board of Trustees in their decision to follow the state recommended guidelines and not impose these additional elective credits, was to provide students with opportunities to select more courses in their personal area of interest and to better assist students who may attend several school districts due to relocation of their families to different areas in Texas.

Please note that some colleges and universities still require certain credits such as Technology Applications for admission and we want to make sure those classes are still available to our students.

The course selection process will continue according to the standard district timeline and you will receive a copy of your child’s proposed course selection in April. As always, our guidance and counseling staff are here to assist you with your child’s graduation planning.

Sincerely,

Greg Smith, Ph.D.

Superintendent
