Profile of a Real Estate Agent

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Coastal Realty

Who are real estate agents?

Well, according to the National Association of Realtors Member Profile for 2009 we are -

  • Median age 54
  • 60% are female
  • 72% are married
  • 96% are registered to vote
  • Median Gross Income $36,700.
  • Handled 7 Transactions last year
  • 35% visit social networking sites regularly

We embrace technology - email, pdf, smart phones, gps, instant messaging, computers. We are involved in our communities. We volunteer. And we Vote.

We would have to work 101 hours per week for 50 weeks a year at $7.25 minimum wage to earn the same amount. We love our family and friends. Real estate allows for a flexible schedule and we work hard. 43% of us work 40-60 hours per week.

We love what we do or we simply stop doing it. We are in the business of real estate not just being busy for the sake of being busy. Real estate is the one thing you can sell that everybody truly needs - shelter.

Maybe the profession is not what is quite hyped up to be??  These #'s validate the fact that the top 10% of agents are doing 90% of the business!

9% make $75,000 - $99,000

8% make $100,000 - $149,999

3% make $150,000 - $199,999

2% make $200,000 - $249,999

3% make $250,000+

So its more like Pareto's principle - 80/20 - Top 20% of the agents are making 80% of the income.

Hype all depends on what you are hyping. This is more than a great career for anyone willing to work in it. And if you ned flexibility in hours or in a part time career - real estate is it, Unless you want to work 101 hours a week.

Wouldn't go back to working a "normal" 9-5 even if you paid me.   20 years strong.
