Hyper local blog postsI've been away from the ActiveRain and the Blogosphere for the past few days and I want to ask Bob Stewart if his latest Hyperlocal Contest was designed to keep us all so busy we won't be clogging up the servers?

It took me about 3 posts to completely understand what the hyper-local contest was supposed to teach me... so I started over and then it happened ~ Shazam! The phone hasn't stopped ringing and I've been running like a race horse...ok, maybe more like a race donkey, but you get my drift.

I'm not complaining, mind you... although I did change my ringtone because I was getting sick of hearing the same ring 100 times a day AND I would like to sleep more than 4 hours AND I'd like to eat more than a yogurt and 3 pretzels in a day, but hey~ that's the price you pay when your hyper-local blog posts lead to 3 listings and 5 buyer contracts in 4 days.

I really want to continue in my quest to complete my last 3 hyperlocal blog posts for the contest....BUT...just a little part of me asks "do I dare open that google juice firehose even more?" Exciting in a scary sort of way.

So what am I doing here? I have closed my door and silenced my phone for an hour as I ease into my place of Zen.  Sitting in front of my computer with my windows open as I blog to the tranquil sounds of my gurgling  courtyard fountain.  Yes, this is my happy place and I am already feeling recharged.

Ok...I'm going to do it.  I'm going to go ahead and post hyper-local post number 5.  Pray for me.

Amy,

It has taken this contest for me to see the entire picture of AR and localism. I've completed 6 posts and waiting for my phone to ring off the hook. I'm not worried though. My area is not one to create instant calls. But... they will come!

Thanks for sharing.  This post helped me understand 1 - what I missed last week as I began the contest, and 2 - that I know it works, too!  There is one neighborhood in my area where the whole neighborhood considers me their local expert.  Honestly I sell very few of the houses, and do still lose listings to agents twice my age (and twice my market share) regularly.  But I almost always get the first phone call.  Even FSBO's call me to let me know they are for sale by owner.  I have farmed the area spottily, but before I knew what a hyper local blog was, I was writing them on that neighborhood - a hungry newer agent trying to sell a single listing there.  Those blogs have paid dividends for several years, I'd bet.  I think I need to dust them off and upgrade the pics to higher quality "I've sold a few houses now" pics.  And work on my conversion rates in there...

San Francisco must just be different that a lot of other places.  I have been blogging about a particular area but I have not had my phone ring enough for me to consider changing ring tones.

Those local neighborhood posts are truly effective and it has been a great encouragement from Bob to get us to write more of them.

The hyper local contest was great because it got so many members thinking local instead of just blogging aimlessly or about things that nobody locally will ever search for.  I try to keep most of my content on my lethbridge mls blog as local as possible, but really do need to improve my content to include thing that people other than me would be interested in.  I find it hard to take of my 'real estate guy' hat and write about other interesting subjects.
