THE ANT & THE GRASSHOPPER...............TWO REAL ESTATE AGENTS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

There was once a well off Real Estate agent (agent hopper)  who was prospering and decided to have fun. There was another Real Estate agent (agent ant) who thought it prudent to keep working and save for a rainy day.

Both went about their business and did very well until

the economy crashed and Real Estate took a fall.

Agent hopper took note of this and decided that when he was finished having fun, going on vacation, and getting a much needed rest from all his previous hard work and gain, he would once again throw himself into the mix and make money.

Agent ant thought...ahhh the worst has happened and the day has finally come and we must work harder to get through this season. Both went about their beliefs in business.

Agent ant had put away extra funds, maintained his knowledge bank by attending classes, was active in his community, kept himself current, and continued to network. He managed to search out and find leads, opportunities, and even new things he has never done so as to keep busy. He knew he had to have a business to stay in business. He answered his phone and put in long hours.

Agent hopper decided to go on as many vacations as he could as prices were falling and because they would never be this low again. One trip after the other, fun and excitement, day after day knowing that he would go back to work soon enough. BUT, until then, he was going to enjoy himself and worry about business later. He was a good agent and he always knew how to make money. His voice message handled all incoming inquiries.

Now the economy had a mind of its own. It was changing and developing into something that no one had ever seen before. The public was not the same either because they... too were suffering from unemployment and not being able to pay their bills. Business as usual changed for everyone. Where would they find help during these trying times. Who would they turn to?

Agent ant decided to learn about short sales, loan modifications, property management, foreclosures and was happy to keep busy, still earn a living and help others through these tough times. People took note of this and often consulted with him during these confusing times.

Agent hopper complained that this shouldn't be happening. He called everyone he knew and told them how bad things were and how they had gotten out of hand. He continued to take his phone messages at the end of the day or next day. He only responded to people who could make him a quick buck. Anything that involved too much effort or change that didn't make a lot of money, he let go of.

ONE DAY.......they ran into each other at the courthouse. Agent hopper was paying a traffic ticket and Agent ant just attending a Real Estate auction on the courthouse steps where he handed out his flyers.

Agent ant said he was very busy, making a lot of contacts, exploring new ways to do business and was ready to jump in any direction as soon as the market settled. Meanwhile, he was getting by.

Agent hopper said things were slow and he was having a tough time and was thinking of getting into something else. Everything has changed. Real Estate is dying and I do not know what to do.

THE ANT OR THE GRASSHOPPER?

Nice little story, Richie. And it is better for all of us as the "hoppers" dop out because business is so bad.

Nice story Richie. The Ant and the Grasshopper was one of my favorite stories as a kid. I think everyone can learn something from it. Especially in this "entitlement" age we live in.

We have plenty of grasshoppers in our area. Thankfully there will always be ants to learn from.

Hi Fellow Agent Ants (so far)......

Glenn......bye bye to the hoppers might be the way to go. A new way is upon us  and it will take commitment to stay the course. I am open to anything at this point.

Deborah....they are just hopping mad arent they? You are going to see agent hoppers soon on freeway offramps holding signs that say, will work for food, escrows, or my favorite.....Real Estate Veteran needs help?

Jennifer...good to see you. I too was lost (hopped too far), but now I am found. What did we know when we first got started? Makes you laugh when you think about it. I thought as soon as I am licensed, the money will just beat my door down to get in. HA !

Dan....The entitlement word nurtures the "hopper" mentality....Yes?. Then, the hard times come and this reality is one hell of a wake-up call. As far as the story goes, I grew up with the Disney version where the Hopper learns his lesson, but is taken in by the Ants for the winter. Kinda defeats the message, but is great for box office tears....

Best

Doug.....I am reminded of how many hoppers inhabit the earth. I think "someone" was trying to make a point....this isnt the way and dont do this. The Ants may end up become saints...who knows ?        St Ant of Real Estate?

Tim....there is only one answer to your question.....you are suffering from "Ants in the pants syndrome" which according to my post.....is a good thing.
