I'm Jumping In! Close Your Eyes! I'm Blogging!

I know, I know!  Please don't berate, belittle or befriend (oh, I guess it is DE-friend) me, but in any case, I have known for over a year now that I should be blogging.  I have told myself that I was going to do it - tomorrow!  Well, after 365 or so tomorrows, I have put the gauntlet down and told myself that I am not going to procrastinate anymore.  Why do you ask?  What made the difference?  RAINCAMP!  Yesterday, I travelled a total of 300 miles roundtrip to travel from my home in Lake Havasu City, AZ to Las Vegas to attend Raincamp, sponsored by none other than Active Rain (woot)!  I met one of my dear friends, Carra Riley (aka Ms. Cosmic Cow Pie), who ever so gently told me "DO IT!" She used to be a REALTOR in my area and knows the make up of the members and 'reminded' me, since she has been trying to get this thru my pea brain, that if I just embrace this blogging thing and really make myself the "Voice of Lake Havasu,"  it would easily catapult me into "stardom."  Well, maybe she didn't promise me all that.  I like to embellish a little just to make my life appear a little more exciting!  But seriously, the benefits of coming from a small community (aka BFE) is that I don't have a lot of competition. I could be the first one in the area who really would be the one to turn to!  I have really jumped aboard the Social Media bandwagon in all other aspects but blogging.  Honestly, there is not another REALTOR in Havasu who I am in competition with when it comes to networking via Facebook or Twitter (the common comment - Twitter, oh yeah, I don't really get that).

I digress (maybe one of the reasons I felt I might suck at blogging)! What did I get from Raincamp?  Lots of links, got to meet up with some people I know from the Vegas area and best of all, got to me Ben Kinney, Bob Stewart and Brad Andersohn.  I knew of Ben because I am a Keller Williams agent and I knew that he helped write @Social with MREA coauther Jay Papasan and had a really super productive team in Bellingham Washington.  I knew 'of' Brad just because of my use of Twitter and I knew he was in the re.net sphere.  I only had the opportunity of knowing of Bob when I was looking for a deal (via Twitter, of course - did I mention I am a twitterholic) to attend Raincamp.  I won a contest to get into Inman SF last year, so I know that there is always a deal to be made.  Bob offered me a discount of $20, but fortunately, I had already received a free Premium ticket through Docusign (thanks An).  Now, after spending the day with Ben, Bob and Brad, I know them better and now I can do what I like best - I can reach out to them on one of the platforms I am comfortable with, FB  or Twitter, and interact and they will know who I am.  What a concept! In the past year, I have done just the opposite!  I have gotten to know hundreds of re.net people via Twitter and then finally through a RE Bar Camps (I went to Phx and San Fran) or Inman, I was able to meet sooo many of them in person.

Another tip I got is not be too wordy!  You will bore your readers.  So, if you aren't nodding over your keyboard at the moment, please take a 'nice' pill and leave me a comment.  Give me some hints on what you have found that has worked for you.  I LOVE learning from others!

With kind regards and Easter wishes -

Mary my comment was not meant to be snarky. You are all over the internet.  Blogging may be perfect for you if you like to write.  I love my blogs. I really enjoy writing them but if I didn't I would find other ways to use social media.  I use Flickr and facebook and other networks.  With the people that I already know in my community I stay connected better through social applications that I do through my blog.  Between my column for Inaman news and my two business blogs I am finding that I don't have as much time to read. or listen as I used to. It is like I am talking too much.  It has been wonderful for business.  Amazing even. Three buyers that I am working with now are from the blog as are 5 of my current listings. It does pay off and as time goes on it pays off even better.  At this point I have over 1700 posts on one blog and I suspect that as I am typing this someone some where is reading something I wrote.

When I write I'm usually wordy, and I tend to go over the material several times editing it prior to publishing. That tends to take a lot of time. So I'm having to learn to think faster, type faster, edit faster, and reduce the total amount of text. My target now is between 300-500 words interspersed with lots of photos.

Tammie:   Thanks.  It has been fun

Jane:  Thanks for the writing compliment.  I just need to learn to not get too wordy - or as some say - rambling on and on and on and on. Oh, you know what I mean.

Roland:  Toot Toot!  It's better to be on the train rather than sitting behind the barriers waiting as the train passes me by.

Christine: Pool?  Thank goodness no one can see me blogging in my bikini!  Argggh

Teresa:   Sorry for the snarky faux paux!  Yes, I do think I need blogging.  I feel that it is a way for me to reach the consumers that will bring me business. I know a lot of people from other areas through my SM activities, but really want to affect business on a more local and even hyper-local level.  By the way, I am multi-tasking and reading one of your blog post while I am reading this.  ha ha

BIll: Yes, I have heard of the 300-500 limit.  I have gotten so many great tips from everyone.  It is awesome.

Michael: I am looking forward to the networking and the payoff.  Look forward to getting to know a lot of great people.

Ron/Alexandra: Thanks for the well wishes!  I will do my best!

Renee:  Yes, lots of great info at #Raincamp.  GLad I took lots of notes.

Marney: Woo Hoo!  Glad you found me!  I like to learn from the very best!

Mary,

Looks like you got off to a terrific start by attending the RainCamp in Vegas. If you just read Brad's past blogs and follow his advice, you'll be a star. Welcome and blog around the clock.

Mary, You are going to bring wonderful energy to the space. I love your color palette, especially the accent on orange.

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Have fun! Nice to see you in the Blogosphere.

Erica:   Thank you for the kinds words.  Everyone has been more than kind to me here on the Rain.  It is much appreciated

Esko:  It is because of Raincamp that I am starting to blog.  I guess I just need to get over the head a couple dozen times.

David O:   Yes, that is exactly why I want to step up the game.  Be the leader before everyone else is already there.  Far less competition.

John:   Thank you very much!  You have an awesome week too.

Evelyn:   Thanks!  It is always important who you know, not just what you know.  Thanks for the tips on ideas for blogging.

Damon:   thank you!  It was awesome!

Monique:   I'll bring the umbrella and see you in the Rain!  :)

An:  I am the one really glad that I am following you twitter account.  Thank you again for allowing to go to Raincamp for free!  It was awesome!

Fran:  Thanks for the input on my color scheme!  I am not usually an orange person, but just thought it, along with the sunset, really embodied what the feeling in Arizona is!  Hope the characteristics ring true!

Nancy:  I love the Rain so far.  I don't mind the errors as long as I know that everyone else is as frustrated as myself.  Appears to be working better today.

Steve:   Thanks for the welcome.  Looking forward to making some great new friends.
