Ipad - Do we really need this device, too?

By
Real Estate Agent with Newstream Realty

The Ipad from Apple is being released today and I have to ask myself and others around me, do we really need ANOTHER device? It seems like every few months, a new technology product hits the market. Admittedly, it looks really cool - you can write and read emails, store photos, watch movies and video clips, download songs, read books, and more. However, I feel as though we're thrust into such a technologically driven society and become so absorbed in our gadgets that we spend less time interacting with others face to face. I'm guilty of using email too much rather than picking up the phone and calling, and I've been trying to change that over the past few months. Nothing replaces the human voice to convey emotions and feelings. What do you think? Do you see it as a break through or as another device to take us away from our every day lives?

I think what's happening is a meshing of the real and the virtual, so either experience is seamless with the other.    Not about what's better or not better.    It's all just communication, and what we have to do is pick the best method for a particular item.

Megan,

I certainly agree with you. I've seen agents get co caught up in the latest craze then wait for the next one. While it's cool to be hip with shiny new toys, the learning time most certainly cuts into sales production. I still believe in KISS with some limit on my toys.

I cannot keep up - if I would buy one would it be outdated in a few months?  Thanks for the info.

Having the tools for real estate are not going to do any good unless you have good people skills. Speaking on the phone, face to face communication is still one of the best ways to do real estate!

My daughters generation (20 yr old) might not know how to communicate in the future business world. Texting is taking over their vocabulary!

You'd have to be an Apple Groupie to fall for everything they throw at the market. Good grief. And yet, every once in a while progress is made on some front that is deemed entirely necessary - how did we ever get along with out it - like the cell phone. So, some of these foolish things are necessary in the progression of gagets until we get to some other thing that does become necessary.
