Twitter Predicts Movie Success-- Will it Predict Yours?

Twitter predicts movie success-- will it predict yours?

Today, an article in the LA Times reveals....Two Silicon valley researchers have found that Twitter feeds can predict the box-office success of unreleased movies and guage real-time interest in newly released movies!  By monitoring the "positive", "negative", and "neutral" tweets researchers have developed computational formulas using Twitter feeds that can predict with as much as 97.3% accuracy how a movie will perform in its first weekend of release.

This valuable information can help studios decide whether they need a last minute boost in advertising, or to scale-back on a sure loser.  Hollywood is not the only one tapping in on the power of social media!

With a vast amount of real-time consumer information-- Twitter will be relied upon heavily for product development and even the outcome of political races. To read the entire article -- Twitter& The Movies .

My challenge is...How can we  use the power of Twitter in our real estate business?  If you had a crystal-ball... what would you like to know?

I'm def. missing twitter in my real estate marketing.  I have an account but rarely do I do much more than post blog links.  I need to get more active and do more interacting with my followers.

Although interesting, it is not all that surprising.  However, I do like your challenge.  Good questions.

Twitter, facebook, etc is a high learning curve for me. I'm gradually looking at it as I learn the AR blogging and how to tie it all in. I'm going to LA RainCamp and hopefully will learn more about how to "effectively" utilizes those medias without spending all my time on the computer.

Kathy,

The prediction on the movies are based on the comments made by people about the Friday night release.  What can someone say about a realtor?  I think success in a service/product is different.  Nice Post.

Fascinating - once when I was desperate for income I took assignments sitting through movies and recording the reaction of the audience, including comments overheard afterward. This is such a better, more efficient method for the movie folks.

Maybe I can use my new "Hot Tub Time Machine" and go back in time and tell myself to start using blogging and Twitter about a year before I did.

I'm fortunate that I don't need Facebook, Twitter, etc., etc., etc. I am still luck enough that I can afford to keep my privacy. Unfortunately, I think I'll eventually be forced to use Facebook and Twitter because those wiill be the only places to get news, information, etc.

Russel,  I don't think of Facebook or Twitter as relinquishing my privacy... I thin of them as ways to enhance my "brand"... get my name out there, share info, etc.  You can make your Facebook as private as you like with different settings-- you would have a million friends on Facebook if you wanted them... all your followers on AR for sure!  Let me know if you sign up-- I would be happy to "friend" you!  Kathy
