We finally have a COSTCO that will open next month in May!
I love IKEA stores!!! I think IKEA home furnishing stores are innovative, keep you organized within your home or office and have items I've never seen in any other store! These popular European stores are all over the world, but the only ones I've seen are in Canada and the U.S. Their kitchens are to "die for".

In fact, the closest eastern stores are either Montreal, Quebec or Boston, Massachusetts, where both of them are at least 8 hours away!
So I went to http://www.ipetitions.com website and created a petition to get as many local Saint Johner's signatures as possible!
By using an assortment of websites, I hope to create enough traffic to create the desire to have an IKEA here in Saint John, NB. I'm trying for 100,000 signatures so that I can summit this petition to IKEA's Corporate offices.
If you know anyone from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island (PEI) or even Maine, that would like to sign this petition, feel free to point them to this blog...
I've put this on my Twitter & LinkedIn connections:

I created a FACEBOOK Fan Page for this cause also:

I also created a Kijiji Community Ad in the Saint John area:

Anne-Marie - while I don't shop ther often I do enjoy the experience ..... good luck with your petition
Hi Kathy,
I visited your IKEA in Toronto in November 2009 and was "floored" at the size of it. Then I went and visited the one in NYC during Christmas 2009 and was sold on getting one here!!! I especially LOVE their Kitchen features and cabinets, very well organized... If you know anyone from this area that would like to sign the petition, send them the link or the blog... THANKS Kathy!!!! ;>))
hi Ann-Marie,
I visit IKEA for the odd item...usually a kitchen gadget or a scatter mat. It's great around Christmas time for stocking stuff too....and for helping students set up their apartments.
Jo
Hi Jo-Anne,
Being a former NYC gal, I love visiting stores that are up-to-date on creature features and innovative home furnishings! Now, you gave me a great idea on getting both my daughters some stuff from there after they finish university and get their own place.. LOL THANKS Jo-Anne
;>))
We have an IKEA here, and when it opened a decade ago, the whole County went crazy. The only thing I don't like about IKEA is that once you get in the store, there's only one way out, and that means you have to walk a few miles to get there. They should have put up a little shortcut about halfway through: "Changed your mind? Exit right here ->"
No IKEA in Colorado Springs, but rumblings are happening. IKEA is a great store. Cherise
Thats my predicament here in New Hampshire. The one in Boston is about 2 hours away but the traffic to get to the "otherside" of Boston stinks. Waaa! There was rumor that one was going into Nashua NH, before the economy tanked. Been to the Montreal store was well as Orlando. You don't go to Ikea to pick up some tape. Its an adventuer. For the shortcuts, follow the people in the yellow shirts.
Hi Russel,
I agree with the "maze" of aisles at IKEA, by the time you have gotten to 3/4 of the store, you are really hungry when you get to their cafeteria and it's CHEAP... ;>))
Hi Cherise,
I'm surprised Colorado Springs dosn't have one, I went through your area when I was 13 years old with my family and I loved it then... You should start a petition and see how far it gets!! ;>))
Hi Ross,
I was laughing at your comment, especially the "adventure" part, it's soooo true, they have so many gadgets and new items that you get overwhelmed. I never thought of it, but it's a Great Idea to follow the workers for the shortcuts! ;>))
Thank goodness they have those fabulous meatballs to build up your strength to carry out all our purchases! I visit the one in Ottawa mainly but Toronto's has emptied my wallet on more than one occassion. They even have one in Belfast Northern Ireland now so Saint John can't be too far behind :0) Good luck with your petition and I'll spread the word too.
Hi Susan, Meatballs??? I've been to 3 IKEA stores and I've never tried them yet!!! Now, When I visit my 85 yr old Aunt this summer in NYC, I'll have to try it!! Sounds wonderful!!!
I really believe if we can get a COSTCO, we should also receive an IKEA!!! Plus, in the future, many localers don't have to travel so far to get quality home furnishings...... Thanks for your support Susan!!! ;>)))
Swedish Meatballs, with fresh boiled potatoes and Lindonberry sauce on the side. IKEA's signature dish in their dining halls.
I have never eaten in the IKEA restaurant, but I do hear the food is very good.
Hi Russel,
Since you are the lucky one, who has an IKEA close to you!!! You will have to try their food and let me know what you thought of it!!! ;>)))
