Our next fun-filled, but architecturally stimulating fundraising event is the Urban Bus Tour on May 19, 2010. The tour will focus on the historic Lafayette Square neighborhood as well as the new Georgian Square community and The Mississippi Bluffs in Carondelet. We are pleased to announce that the tour will include:

  • Cocktail and appetizer gathering at Lafayette Park's historic Park House and Gazebo for a presentation by Carolyn Willmore (local architectural historian and Lafayette Park Conservancy member) on the history of Lafayette Square and its Lafayette Park, a stunning 172-year-old 30 acre Victorian park.
  • Bus tour around Lafayette Park highlighting historic homes of distinct Victorian architecture - Second Empire, Queen Anne, Romanesque and Italianate. Plus, a photo tour of Lafayette Square presented by historic preservationist Michael Allen during the bus ride between locations.
  • A tour of Palladium St. Louis, an exciting event venue in the City Hospital Development complex that is home to local caterer Butler's Pantry, which will include champagne & strawberrings and more to celebrate the evening. Gilded Age Developer Chris Goodson will also provide a brief overview of the proposed restaurant, retail center, fitness facility, experimental garden and urban market planned as a part of Phase 2 of the City Hospital Development Project, as well as a presentation with Alderwoman Phyllis Young on the proposed historic tax credit legistation.
  • Tours at several of the historic and new-construction developments in or near Lafayette Square: The Georgian, Vail Place Townhomes & Condominiums, The Mississippi Bluffs and Mississippi Place.  Cocktails, beverages and food will be on the tour.
