Squatters, Chapter II, more lessons for a Florida Real Estate agent

Finally, I woke from fairyland dream of believing that all people are basically honest and sincere, and things are as they appear.

As my eyes opened to the brightness of the computer screen where I have just researched public records for my county, and parole records for my state, lo and behold, my squatters have already been evicted, even foreclosed upon, and one of the two is currently on parole for a violent confrontation with an arresting police officer.

So, I ask my naive self, would it be a good idea to contact the state corrections department, or my squatters parole officer, if he/she could give me a hand to free my home of these squatters, and perhaps even take them out of the public environment where they repeatedly victimize landlords?

Did I mention that I noticed inside their (my) home, they have an cache of weapons and ammunition manufacturing equipment?  Even though this arsenal is qualified as tools of the sport of killing ducks, birds, rabbits, or deer, or some other members of the sport-hunting community, a parole instruction reads that parolees are not to possess weapons/firearms?

Should I report this?

Hi, Robert!

Well, I too, always give people the benefit of the doubt.  I don't know why you haven't reported it, yet.  It might facilitate them leaving your property and you're doing your civic duty as well.  It sounds like a scary situation to be in.  Good luck.

Robert,

First, I agree with Yolanda!  What are you waiting for?

Second, I worked in property management for a short time.  I suggest you find a reputable Property Management firm to manage your rental properties.  They handle all of the "dirty" work for you -- for a fee of course but it's worth it.  Advertise rentals, process applications, ran a complete background check -- we ran credit, rental history and criminal background check -- and had no problem declining applicants.  We also collected rent, kept our percentage and sent the balance to the owner(s).  Late rents were collected -- no matter how long it took with the late fees -- and if they didn't pay, they were evicted.

Run, don't walk, to the nearest police station and ask to speak to a detectice. Explain the situation as you have described here, sit back and let them do their job.

Victor DaGraca, Judi Morgan, and Yolanda Hoversten,

Thanks for your interesting advice.  I'd like to do my part to help stop squatters from taking advantage of trusting souls, without becoming suspicious of everyone in the world.  Those people give good people a bad name.

Thanks for your comment, Mike Jones.  I think you are correct.  They leave me no choice.  I don't want to 'kick someone who is downl', but these people leave me no choice.  They ignore me!

Robert
