If you're looking for a waterfront home, don't miss Broadwater. One reason is its location. It's in southwest St Petersburg, west of I-275 and just north of the Pinellas Bayway and Dolphin Cay, it's a wonderfully convenient location. It's on the east side of Boca Ciega Bay, with the bay and intercoastal separating it from the beach communities on the Gulf of Mexico. It's a short trip to the Gulf by boat, there are no fixed bridges, so it's great for sailboats, and there are dozens of places to boat for lunch, as well as islands for fun. By car, it's less than 5 minutes to I-275 for travel to Tampa or Sarasota, 10 minutes from vibrant downtown St Petersburg, and 10 minutes from the Gulf Beaches (choose your beach mood: St Pete Beach for people and activity, Pass-a-Grille for "old Florida" or Ft. DeSoto Park for a world award-winning beach where it's often just you and the herons.
Another is the people. The residents are a mixture of ages and interests. Most take pride in their neighborhood and renovations are constantly taking place, even some rebuilds. Several people have lived there less than a year - others have been there since the homes were new in the early 1970s. Most of the homes are "Florida ranch" style, made popular by Rutenberg and followed by Apple. Some homes were built in the 80s, 90s and 00s, and with "tear down and build new" some are brand new homes.
The feel of the neighborhood also matters. Broadwater is one of the areas fortunate enough to have reclaimed water. Not only is this cheaper than city water (it's a fixed rate per month) but it's not as restricted during dry periods, so the lawns stay green and lush. Birds of paradise accent the palm trees, and we have colorful hibiscus and oleander must of the year, with seasonal flowers and flowering trees rotating with the seasons.
Waterfront home prices range from the $600s to nearly $2,000,000.
