A Good Real Estate Mentor Is Like A Creative Casserole !!!

By

A good real estate mentor is like a creative casserole.  It's made up of a variety of ingredients, and those ingredients in relation to real estate can be called "techniques."  A good mentor is the most valuable asset in your real estate collection.  If you don't have one, find one.

A mentor is an invaluable entity to every active real estate agent.  One does not have to be a new agent to have a mentor.  Mentors have mentors.  These are agents who are experienced and can be trusted to counsel, guide and share information and techniques with an individual.

I am a mentor to my team members.  They rely on me to advise, coach, guide, tutor, train and just plain "pony up" whenever it's necessary.  All of those terms are used synonymously with mentoring.  Everyone in business needs a mentor for stability, security and the creation of longevity within their office and profession.

Pam....do you have a good relationship with the manager in your office? usually a manager is a good mentor....it's their job to help and to maintain confidentialities....they should be well versed in all phases of real estate and should be able to role play any situation with you....when I was managing conventional offices, I was always the mentor for most of the agents in the office....the bad thing about that is when I left that office, they all followed.

We use to have a mentoring program at the company I use to work at. The reason it didn't work was the mentors were just in it for the money. I wasn't part of the program but felt I could help another agent in need. The mentors were never around...
Your friend from Washington State,

Barbara - I've been with my current broker several years. I feel like I've learned all there is to learn from him. He is a great resource but I don't have to goto him like I used to with questions and problems. I've started to mentor other agents. I'm curious when the right time is for me to find someone else to grow my knowledge of the business

We don't have a manager...just a broker of record (the owner) and he's not really a hand's on kind of guy. I started with that brokerage on a team, but alas, that didn't work out. I met a lady and we are really good friends now, and I thought we could probably work really well together, but finances forced her to take a full-time job.

If it weren't for bad luck...LOL

That's quite the compliment that they all followed you. A major Kudos to you :)

Paul....the way I see it, a mentor is someone who is NOT in it for the money...they are in it to teach others....to help them grow ...... and then have the privilege of saying you trained them!!!

Christopher....you should ALWAYS have a mentor.....as I said, mentors need mentors.....find another person to mentor you and go to that next level with your business....and continue to pass on that knowledge to others.....someday, you will be a mentor to a very good mentor and that's a compliment to you.

Pam.....maybe you need to make a change so that your business does not get stagnant....you need to find someone you can talk to, confide in and learn from, in order to continue to grow.

Pam....interview at the top few offices....it's always a good practice....if for no other reason than to have a better appreciation of what you now have....but you may just find a new situation that really satisfies your needs.....you may just strike gold.

Barbara I know there was some text to your blog, but when I saw the Zuppa de Mar I lost focus, the shrimp, clams, mussels, a bit of calamari, and it looks to be served on a bit of pesto pasta. Time to go get dinner.
