Thousand Oaks Pensacola Lives Up To It's Name

If you are the type of person who loves an established neighborhood with non-cookie cutter homes and mature landscaping, then Thousand Oaks Pensacola lives up to it's name!  Hurricane Ivan did do some damage and took out quite a few trees, but you would never know it driving through the neighborhood today.  Although the main entrance to the Thousand Oaks Pensacola subdivision on Chemstrand Road is very nice, I actually prefer the Kingsfield (on Dueling Oaks) entrance, which is covered on both sides by towering oak trees.

My family likes to bike down Dueling Oaks to the turtle pond (actually a neighbor's yard, but they never seem to mind when the kids bring bread crumbs for the fish and turtles).  The kids also love the turtle pond because they can watch the ponies in the pasture behind the pond.

Most of the homes in Thousand Oaks Pensacola were built in the early 1980's (although new homes are still being built today, and a few lots remain to be built upon), and each home has a different style, getting away from the newer cookie cutter neighborhood homes built in recent years.  Almost all of the homes have at least 1/3 acre, and the original builders seem to have tried to keep the mature trees during construction, so the neighborhood has a more natural feel.  Most of the current homeowners try to keep the feel of nature with large azalea displays, creeping jasmine, daylilies galore, and many, many, crepe myrtles!  All of the care given to these features gives Thousand Oaks Pensacola more of the feel of a nature walk, than that of a residential neighborhood.

Added to the appeal of the neighborhood itself is the location in the prime school districts of  R.C. Lipscomb Elementary (an ‘A' rated school for the past several years), Ferry Pass Middle School (‘A' rated for the 2009 school year), and Tate High School (currently ‘B' rated for 2009, but well known for it's baseball program, which won national championships in 1984 and has won several state championships as well. The football program and Showband of the South marching band are also big draws for the school).
