CQ Press has released Crime State Rankings for 2010, and New Hampshire was ranked as the Safest State in America!

New Hampshire received the lowest crime rate ranking, followed by Vermont. North Dakota, Maine and Idaho.

The CQ report looks at the crime rates across 6 categories-murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft- which are compared to the national reported crime rates and then indexed to create a summary score and ranking across 6 areas of reported violent crime and property crime.

Well you get two things when you move to New Hampshire - probably one of the most beautiful states + safety!

Joan, my wife is from California which is a beautiful state, but she loves the four seasons that we have here in New England.

Renee ~  New Hampshire is a beautiful state and it is a great place to live.  I love Las Vegas... my roommate in college was from Las Vegas.  You won't believe it, but before I met her, I didn't know people really lived in Las Vegas.

Goerge ~ After living in San Francisco for over 20 years, I wasn't sure how I would like 4 seasons.  I must say, I do love the east coast and it beautiful.

Margaret ~  New Hampshire folks are very proud of their state and very independent.  Maryland is beautiful too!

Hi Joan,

Safest state, that's pretty amazing. Wonderful photos, if I knew of anyone moving to New Hampshire you're the first person I want to refer to!

Ross -- New Hampshire certainly is a great place to live and we certainly are a proud and independent minded state!  That's probably what makes us so healthy!

Linda ~ Thanks for the comments and I feel the same about you and the area you cover as well.  That is the wonderful thing about Active Rain.  I have come to know professionals like yourself that I would love to have my client/referrals work with.

Ellie ~  I have to say I am so excited to see all these wonderful statistics about New Hampshire.  It is a state that is great to live in... and it is close to many types of activities as well.  It still has a long winter for my tastes, but it has so much to offer that I can simply look forward to spring!

Great for New Hampshire, Joan! I need to see where CT ranks. I don't know about moving that far north...I think that's one of the reasons why I turned down my acceptance to Dartmouth 18 years ago. Goodness, has it been that long?

Hi Joan...Of course you should be proud of New Hampshire even if they were not voted as the safest state to live in.  It is your home and it's a great New England state.  That's a beautiful part of the country.

Joan, I love seasons and your photos. We only really have 2 seasons in Redding. Winter and Summer. We get about 2 weeks of Fall and Spring and that's it. Those are my favorite times of year. Well we are surrounded by beauty and three mountain ranges. A day trip takes us to cooler weather and enjoyable climates. Great post!

Joan - Visiting every state in the country is on my bucket list and while I have seen so many of our states, I have to say that NH is one that I just haven't made it to yet. One day I hope to get there because it really looks like a beautiful state.
