Today in New York....

The NYPD traffic police ticketed a hearse which was parked in a no parking zone, while the driver was inside picking up the body. Apparently the only legal parking space was blocks away and the hearse driver was trying to avoid rolling the dead body through the neighborhood. That could be a scary sight for some.

Guess I am just frustrated that I got a parking ticket last week. Yes, me the law abiding citizen. I parked in a parking lot on Sunday. The spot I selected had no sign indicating no parking. Actually the spot had no sign at all. Nor did the spot on either side of the spot I selected.  I parked within the lines. I returned a few hours later to find a ticket on my window. The fine was hefty. $95 is not pocket change. After seeking out some indication of what I may have done wrong, I found a small, teeny, tiny sign at the far end of the long, long row of cars that said "Reserved for Official Vehicles". There were no official looking vehicles anywhere. The only cars around were other normal looking cars parked in unmarked spots that now had tickets on their windows as well.

I debated fighting the ticket. So I called a friend from the NYPD. He said "It's a kangaroo court and you better just pay the ticket." So pay up is what I did.

The hearse driver went to court. He decided it was worth fighting. The judge said "You better pay up." The hearse driver thinks there are indeed some kangaroos in town.

It would be nice if some of the kangaroos would go after some real criminals for a change.

Susan...that is funny concerning the Hearse; that is also official 'overkill' too. Your parking ticket brings back BAD memories. A number of years ago, I found that I had to go to the County Court house to register my then Clothing Design business. This court is in downtown Mt Clemens where at the time, they had the equivalent of 'meter maids' driving around.  The various lots are or were identifies as Green Lot, Yellow Lot--yadda, yadda. Since the Green lot was the closer area & it was across from a Catholic Church I chose the lot. Like your example, I looked for signs & they were there--posted on telephone poles that seemed to ring the inner parking areas; I then parked carefully in the outside ring area with NO telephone pole present.  I, too, had a ticket--my first & only. When I went to the then police station to pay, I inquired about the placement of the signs. I was told that 'everyone' knows that the entire lot is a 'By Permit Lot Only'. Well, maybe 'everyone who worked in the area' & tell that to the parishioners who do park there [we did when we went to that Church]
Understand that the Church had signs in front of the Church than stated "Thou Shalt Not Park"! Guess that I should have seen those & moved elsewhere. LOL

Sorry to hear about your ticket. It's so ridiculous that they would ticket a hearse, there is someone with no common sense!
