Who the heck is Davin Tong? He is currently one of my favorite youtubers. Davin Tong is a Chinese Canadian guy from Vancouver who has made a big splash in the past year on youtube as the character Peter Chao. As Peter Chao, Davin Tong speaks in a broken Chinese accent, rocks Louis Vuitton gear, and makes fun of other youtubers, racial issues, and Chinese stereotypes. The character is hilarious and continues to evolve with each video that Davin creates.
Recently, Peter Chao managed to achieve a 2nd place finish in an online video contest sponsored by Doritos. The contest was a bit of a ripoff as Peter Chao generated more page views, clicks, video views, and publicity than all other contestants combined. However, due to some technical issues and some criticism from other contestants, the Peter Chao videos experienced some severe discrimination and disadvantage.
Keep an eye out for Davin Tong. I expect that his Peter Chao character will continue to gain a larger following across the internet and eventually migrate into mainstream media formats, but I am sure that he will continue with additional film and acting talents.
