Last night was the first warm night we've had in Annapolis, Maryland since I can remember. It's been a long winter that both local residents and out-of-town visitors want to put behind far, far behind. So, just after dark, it was time to venture downtown for a stroll along City Dock often referred to as "ego alley" for the fancy boats docked at the foot of Main Street.
Annapolis, Maryland offers residents and visitors alike a waterfront lifestyle. From the hustle and bustle of downtown to the quiet backwaters of local creeks. It is said that Annapolis is a drinking town with a sailing problem!!! For sailors and their crew, Annapolis is the center of the universe. Boaters - whether by sail or by power - can find something of interest to entertain and delight them in Annapolis.
The Dock Street Bar and Grill is across the street. A steady stream of pedestrians and cars pass by as Midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy enjoy some late nite fare and a few minutes of leave.
Although already closed for the day on this warm evening, Helly Hansen is the place to shop for fowl weather gear and everyday sailing clothing for serious sailors as well as they who want to just look the part!!!
No night - or day for that matter - in downtown Annapolis is complete without a stop at one of a half dozen ice cream parlors. Kilwin's offers ice cream, chocolate, confections, handmade fudge, truffles, gift chocolates, gourmet baskets, chocolate gift baskets and holiday baskets!!!
About halfway up Main Street is Francis Street. It's a dog leg off Main up to State Circle where the Maryland State House is located.
Any visit to Annapolis should include a stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the world famous Chick & Ruth's Delly. Featured in magazines and on television shows, this is one eatery you might not want to miss.
If you're looking for something to eat that out of this world, try Cafe Normandie, a french bistro. This is one of my favorite places to take friends and family who come to visit from out of town.
But, my personal favorite place to eat is at Joss Cafe and Sushi Bar. This is a small intimate resturant featuring local and international delights. If in season, you might like to try a Soft Shell Crab Roll.
