We had a particularly difficult winter with the cold and snow. For some reason the flowers and shrubs in our yard have been a little slow in coming out. Yesterday as I started to do some cleanup, I had an opportunity to really see the yard, and I was really pleased to see the earth starting to wake up.
The dogwood at the top of the driveway is starting it's blossoms, which means the birds especially the hummingbirds will be around, but you need to look quickly to find them.
Also, the pachysandra at the base of my trees are starting to blossom, and I had forgotten that they do blossom. I don't remember who, but some time ago an ActiveRain member posted a blog warning about creeping myrtle, and the damage it can do. I do recall commenting about pachysandra and how easy it is to manage and how invasive it isn't.
For the gardener that doesn't like working or mowing around trees and is looking for ground cover that requires little or no maintenance, this little plant is ideal. A little goes a long way because of the way it can spread, but it is pretty easy to contain to the required areas.
Yup, spring is here, customers are looking for houses, and the lawn is going to need to be cut. Work, Work, Work!
