What's in a name?

I admit I had to look up what an "SEO" was last week after joining AR and before joining the "Blogging and SEO" group. I hadn't spent much time worrying about my presence on the Web - just my presence in front of Realtors - but Active Rain is changing me in that regard! So today, after making some changes I learned from another blog (http://activerain.com/blogsview/158361/Optimizing-Your-Active-Rain) I decide to see where I ranked on the World Wide Web.

I start with typing in "interior solutions" at Google(r) and here's what the top ranking site had to say:  ( This was copied directly from: http://economics.about.com/library/glossary/bldef-interior-solution.htm

Definition of Interior Solution: An interior solution is a choice made by an agent that can be characterized as an optimum located at a tangency of two curves on a graph.

A classic example of an interior solution is the tangency between a consumer's budget line (characterizing the maximum amounts of good X and good Y that the consumer can afford) and the highest possible indifference curve. The slope of that tangency is where: (marginal utility of X)/(price of X) = (marginal utility of Y)/(price of Y)

WOW I was blown away - I named my company without any knowledge of this economic term. I believe now that this is the perfect name for my staging business as here's my biased interpretation of this definition:

An Interior Solution is a choice made by a REAL ESTATE agent that is optimum. A classic example of an INTERIOR SOLUTION is characterized by the maximum amount of good furniture and good accessoires the consumer can afford.

OK, well it's a stretch and I'm still not showing up until page 5 on Google, and even that's thanks to localism!!! So - i guess I need to worry a little more about my SEO awhile considering the economic impact of having the perfect name for my business.

Find out where you stand on the Web and if there is some hidden meaning to your business name. You never know what's in a name until you search.

JoAnn, to be honest I am not sure I even understand what SEO is and how it works.  What I do know is now when I Google my name (first or full) I am on the first page.  Thanks in large to Trulia and Active Rain.

Tereciah:

Well i can certainly see how your first name works for you! I wish i could here you pronounce it - it looks like it would sound lovely! I do find myself if i type in my full business name and even my personal name right up there at the top - and it is because of localism - which is credited to AR as well. So I am thrilled to find that I am out there - but do want to understand more about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)- as the WWW grows and I want my clients to find me quickly and effortlessly! I wasn't familiar with Trulia, so i'll look into them, now. Thanks for the lead.

Give google a little time and patience to get a higher ranking. Do not move your website to a different porvider or you may loss your ranking altogether. This is the voice of experience :-(
