Loving Long Island NY Food

Years ago while going up on Long Island New York the nourishment of food was very important for many of us.  I might be along with those other people from another generation who believe that it wasn't just food that nourished us and our growing bodies.  It was the love that was cooked into the food.

Pot luck diners, Sunday lunches and friends and family gatherings all played a very important part in nourishing not only our bodies but souls and minds as well.

We knew, we just instinctively knew that there was a lot of love cooked in those meals.  Some Feng Shui consultants believe that it is not just what you eat or serve on the table, but what goes into a meal. There was always the special treat when grandma was around to bring in her special home made love as well. Remember it is not always what you cook with, it is who you cook for and how you cook for them that will matter far longer in future.

Carole, there is really an art to taking photos of food!  Of course, I would eat if first!

One of the things that attracts me most to pot lucks is the opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors. Food is something we all "understand." Here is a place we all can be together...Thanks for this post!

You can just tell when a meal was cooked with love in it. The chef/ server is proud, the recipients are happy!

So true! There are certain foods that no matter where I eat them, will always remind me of my Mom or my Grandma. I hope to pass that love along to my children when I cook for them.

There is so much more to food than even physical nourishment! We were meant to socialize, bond, love over this common need. I used to hate cooking, but now I try to see it as providing love, nourishment and an opportunity to be together for my family.

Carole, I love home cooking, my mom will "slave" in the kitchen all day and cooks delicious food for us, she enjoys doing that.  Now, I cook for my family, and my kids always say thank you to me when I cook something extra good for them, it is a joy to see others enjoying your cooking.

Carole - I can really believe in that principle of cooking love into our meals.  Of my 4 children, 2 are really good cooks, and kick it up to the gourmet status.  I have another daughter that is so busy, she manages good meals, with little time.  But my oldest daughter, thinks dinner is reaching for the phone and making reservations!

hi Carole,

I loved this post and it is so timely....I just baked a strawberry loaf for a friend who is recovering from brain cancer and when I turned it upside down to cool it, it all fell apart! Oh well, it likely will still taste the same and the love is still there....

beautiful flowers! Are they yours?

Jo
