Putting pictures of toilets in MLS photos is often something that makes me laugh- often the seats are up - or the commode is just dirty and it looks unsightly.  Besides that, toilets become such a distraction in a photo that I don't even look at the rest of the bathroom.

Lately, something else has caught my eye in bathroom photos.  The mirrors.  Not just the mirror - but the reflection in the mirror.  Some "mirror" reflections that I've recently seen in MLS photos and ones the agent should have photo-shopped out are:

  • The photographer smoking, cigarette hanging from his mouth.
  • Kids - jumping on the presumed master bedroom bed.  This was interesting because it was a staged home - listed as vacant.
  • A "teen" couple hugging and kissing.
  • A bright flash spot - from the flash going off.
  • And most often, its the agent in the mirror looking like they are taking a picture of themselves.

If you don't hire someone to take your photos, next time around when it comes to the bathroom shots, check yourself in the mirror before you take the photo and check it afterwards to make sure that the reflection you leave is a good one!

The mirror one is my favorite.  It happends all of the time.  Why place a distraction in the picture???

Great post!!

Good Moring Gabrielle.....WHAT ARE AGENTS THINKING????  I think the bathroom can be skipped in the photo dept. unless there's a jet tub or something spectacular....to take a photo of a toilet with the seat up, down or removed, just doesn't make sense to me.

The technique or lack of shows. The guy or gal with the big R on their jacket forgets in the hurry to the next closing, listing or kid's event that the wizard curtain is not pulled tightly shut. Toilets are my pet peeve too. Put down the seat...which is the number one lady complaint. Nail that sucker shut.

Mirror, mirror on the wall - is that the idiot realtor with their camera?  It's true, good post. I've often noticed it lately just as much as the toilet seat being up. Thanks for the laugh this morning!

Gab,

Very few bathrooms really show up well in MLS photos. Now if we could only find a way to position the mirror to show the throne with the seat up, we would have it all.

Great post...adn so very true...I hate to see pictures of toilets....even with the lid down!!!   Mirrors can be funny.....

I used to sell home accessories...and my mom was visiting ...I was getting ready for a party and had an arrangement on the display wall.   Mom took a picture...(this was before digital cameras)   when I asked her how the pictures turned out all she could do was laugh...In the mirror I was across the room bent over with my rear in the mirror!  uuuggghhh!!!!

It is better to take photos of features that will help sell the house. Bathrooms? Very small and hard to get a good shot. Great post

Hey Gab - The only bathroom photo I like is the classic outhouse here in North Idaho.  Now those are cool.

Gabrielle, some bathrooms are really difficult to photograph without reflections,  I've been using a stick lately to get those shots.
