wabashHome Town and another great day, Memorial Building is where we took off to today in Wabash, In.  This is the War Memorial building that I had actually signed all my papers to Join the U.S. Marines in 1969.  I will never forget that day.  So many others had done the same as I did throughout the years throughout our town history.  Some of those young men did not make it back home, they are our true heroes.  I thank all of them and their families for the sacrifice they had given in order for me to continue with our lives we all have today.

I now have posted three posts concerning this little town, and I hope many of you can relate to what I am trying to convey.  Our history, our past, and present has made us what and who we are today.  I look at this building in awe, as I wonder who built it, how long did it take to do so, and do those wonderful craftsmen know what they have left behind for us to enjoy and use for many years to come?

As with all towns, the downtown areas are now starting to show the effects of our economy.  Several store fronts are empty, and so many buildings that use to stand, and now gone.  I do hope things will get better, and I hope to see more people active within our communities that want our towns to survive.  Thanks for coming by my post, I hope you enjoyed this picture of the War Memorial Building.

Hi Bob! They sure don't build them like that anymore do they.. I wish they did. That's what I miss most about Upstate NY, the old buildings. Thanks for sharing your memories!

I LOVE old architecture. The detailing and the lines of the buildings are awesome! Everywhere I travel, I have to see the downtown area and take pictures of the buildings.

I also love old architecture, it would cost a fortune to make buildings like that again.  I agree that seeing downtown areas, once occupied with the "busyness" of life now vacant and devoid of life -- I wish there was a way to maintain this "ambiance" of the past.

Thanks for sharing!

Lysa, Hi there and greetings from Indiana to Florida, LOL.....no, they don't because I think they can't, LOL  I love the structure, and the inside is even more detailed than anything being built these days.  Hey have you completed your move yet...I sure hope so.  Take care.

Hey Lisa, I am glad you enjoyed this building too.  We love to look at different town buildings as well.  And we do take pictures of so many of them.  We have actually taken a picture of a Courthouse, with a tree, (a large one) that is growing out of the top of the building.  We often wonder why they allowed this tree to grow, we can only guess that it started as a seed, and progressed from the top outside of the building.  Unreal.  Thanks for coming by. Take care too.

Hi Sondra, Yes it would cost so much to replace or build a structure as this one.  And, I too wish I could have a magic wand to just waive and make businesses flourish too as they were so long ago.  You know I am getting older than I think, or feel, LOL..thanks for coming by and commenting, and I love reading your posts!

Bob, everything is moved, now it just has to find a home. Cleaned up the old place yesterday, just have to pick up the vacuum and mop :) (It started pouring as I was ready to leave). How is your arm?

Thesa, I have wondered the same, I do not think they will look at the older buildings as we do now.  But instead they will look at the skyscrapers.  I love the history that these old buildings carry with them.  Glad you liked this too.

That is why I have no regrets.  You can't change the past anyway.

And I love the picture.

Hi Bob,
What a beautiful memorial and you know you sure gave an excellent clue there regarding your age!  LOL.

I agree with what others have said here about today's building just not comparing with the older ones.  I think it has a lot to do with lack of patience. You know it took lots of time, hard work and patience to build those building with the detail they have (had).  Today, we want it started on Monday and finished by Friday.
