The first time I heard of the phrase "Commit Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Beauty" was while reading an article in a Reader's Digest in the early 1980's. As I recall, the movement was an "answer" to the many seemingly "random acts of violence" of the era. There was a movie in 2000, "Pay It Forward", starring Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt that was based on this principle. If you are ever in the mood for a "good" movie, dig this one up, heres a clip.
It is a thought that has stuck with me over the years, and brought to the forefront of my consciousness this morning by a local Breakfast Television Program. Apparently "Mars" (Mars chocolate bars) recently launched a Random Acts of Chocolate campaign, for more information visit: Mars Acts of Chocolate
There was a recent survey in Canada, and the results indicated:
1) A significant difference in the number of people reporting that they committed a Random Act of Kindness and those people that acknowledged receiving a Random Act of Kindness. Approximately twice as many are giving out Random Acts of Kindness than are acknowledging receiving them (?)
2) Apparently women are more likely to commit a Random Act of Kindness than men
3) Older people commit more Random Acts of Kindness than do younger people
It doesn't take much to do something nice for someone for no other reason but to help another person, and you end up feeling better and with a much better attitude. Like Saving Our Planet, its just the right thing to do...
Hmmmm.... I found an organization that promotes the philosophy, if this appeals to you, join the organization Random Acts of Kindness, change your life, and those whose lives you "touch" ... and then "Pay it forward" =)
