I am taking a course called the "Citizens Academy" which is given by our town. The reason I am taking this class is to learn more about how my town works. We visit different departments and have representatives explain the functions of those departments. Every department participates from Police - Fire - Planning & Development - Parks & Recreation- Charter Schools - Accounting, even the Mayor. I can't believe how much I didn't know, and how much I have learned. The advantage of taking this course is not only to learn about my town but hopefully I am becoming a better informed agent for customers moving here. I highly recommend this course for all agents; find out if one is offered in your town.

Lois, this does sound like a great idea, I'm definitely going to check on anything that might be available here and if there is nothing, then like Lisa I'll push some buttons to get a similar program started here.

Thanks for your comments. I am also making my buyers aware of the program so they can take advantage of it and learn about their community. The only negative I have found is it has to be schedualed during the day, which makes it difficult for the everyday worker, even though it is only once a week for several weeks.
