New Movies & Live Entertainment in Iowa City & Coralville This Weekend

Two new movies in Iowa City & Coralville theaters today - April 9. It seems I didn't miss my vocation as a movie critic with my assessment of last weeks movies. Clash of the Titans made box office, although I have it on good authority, (my son) that it was "underwhelming" at best. Considering the competition this week I'd say the chances of it making a second week are pretty low, but perhaps I should just hold my tongue and wait and see...

You can check the schedule for movies at the Coral Ridge Mall Movie Theatre in Coralville and the Sycamore Mall Cinema in Iowa City...

Coralville City Hall - 1st day above 70 degreesSo what do we have to pit up against Clash of the Titans this week? The top new release this week is Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Feys, who of course need no introduction. No prizes for guessing that this movie is about a run of the mill date night that ends up being anything but that! Teaming up these two stars was a brilliant move on the part of Shawn Levy who directed this movie. I don't see how it can fail. (uh oh, there's me opening my mouth again!)

The second new movie is Letters to God and as the name suggests it's a heart warming story about faith. It's based on a true story about an eight year old who writes letters to God daily and how this touches and effects the people around him, especially the mailman. Gives you warm fuzzy feelings just thinking about it, doesn't it?

That's it for movies. Moving onto live entertainment...
Riverside Casino has landed itself quite a catch this week with Keb' Mo' playing his particular style of blues there on Saturday. They don't come any better than this!

The Mill has an interesting weekend lined up.
Tonight, (Friday) they have G Spot Hair Design celebrating their 10th anniversary with a one of a kind hair show. (I told you it was interesting, didn't I?) On Saturday Deer Tick will be playing along with Those Darlins + Shame Train. You'll find more details on their website.

We've got something for everyone when it comes live entertainment in Iowa City and if country music with dance is more your style, then check out the Wildwood Smokehouse & Saloon. Great music and great food and free wi-fi... Check out their Facebook Fan page. The reason they've earned a regular place in my post is because they do a better job than anyone else I've seen using that media to give info on specials and upcoming events.

That's it again for my weekly update. For more ideas on live entertainment, including what's going on at theaters this weekend I've written a couple of posts pulling things together making it easier for you to find theaters and live entertainment venues in Iowa City.
