Gated Communities....Do We Need Them???

How do you feel about gated communities? I had guests from Europe and they wanted to know if the gates were to keep outsiders away or keep the residents inside....good question. It never occurred to me prior to that how others might view these communities.

Do we need them? I have lived in gated communities and find them a hassle. Usually the guard is only at the main gate and you need a code to get into a secondary gate. This makes it difficult for friends and service people to get to you. And let's face it, if somebody is targeting you specifically, they WILL manage to get to you, gated community or not. The gates don't keep thieves out either.... it just makes it a little more difficult for them.

Personally, I can do without the gated community. What is your opinion??? Are they worth the added hassle to get in and more importantly, are they worth the expense???

Absolutely!

I work in an area that has quite a few gated Golf and Country Clubs and I live in one of them.

The better areas take their security very seriously and the residents want it that way.

Not only DOES it improve security, it also cuts down on more minor things like traffic, door-to-door annoyances - and it does add value to the Home.
