Oakville Homeowners Eligible for Free 'peaksaver®' Programmable Thermostat and a $25 Gift for Enrolling !

Oakville residents who are single-family homeowners are eligible for the peaksaver® Program, a program designed to help Ontarions save on energy usage and lessen the burden on electricity consumption during the peak demand times during the summer months.

Residents who sign up for the program are able to decrease their electricity costs  through the installation of a programmable thermostat that allows for their central air conditioning usage to be slightly reduced during the peak demand times.
An online operations centre allows program participants to adjust their usage.peaksaver programmable thermostat

Peak demand times are usually on weekday afternoons on the hottest summer days.

If you are an Oakville single-family homeowner with central air conditioning and are a customer of Oakville Hydro, you are eligible to participate.

There is no cost for the program and as an incentive to sign up, you will receive a $25 cheque for allowing an Oakville Hydro certified technician to install a peaksaver® programmable thermostat in your home (cost of the thermostat and installation is free.)

Call 866-514-6778 to set up an appointment.

Using less electricity during peak usage times enables Ontarions to lessen the burden on coal-fired generating stations. This reduces the amount of air pollution entering our atmosphere and helps to diminish global warming. It also allows residents to reduce their overall energy costs.

The program is being run by Oakville Hydro in conjunction with the Ontario Power Authority. Other regions of Ontario may also have this program available to their residents. Check with your local power authority.

Residential customers can register for the program here.

Great program; now if I could only teach Spencer it takes a few minutes to heat up and not to set things at 80 so when I come home I don't feel like I am sick.

Jo - It is also a great way to save money, especially during the peak rates now in use for time of use billings.

hi Tom,

lol....I can't imagine Spencer doing such a thing...maybe he needs a big sweater to wear until the house is warmed up.

hi Marc,

Very true....although Oakville doesn't go under the new rates until 2011. Good idea to get ready now , though.

Jo,

This is a very good post. I suppose it will be available in other communities as well.
