The Township Council passed a resolution July 18 that could mark the first step in consolidating Florence Township's four ZIP codes into two.
The resolution cites confusion by residents of Florence Township (08518) who are serviced by Burlington (08016) and Bordentown (08505) ZIP codes.
The village of Roebling (08554) is also mentioned in the resolution, though it has a separate ZIP code.
The township hopes the U.S. Postal Service will service all of Florence Township using the 08518 ZIP code, rather than servicing parts of Florence with Burlington and Bordentown ZIP codes, according to Assistant Municipal Administrator Tom Sahol. The village of Roebling would remain a 08554 ZIP code.
The resolution will act as a formal request by the township that the U.S. Postal Service administrative office for central and north Jersey conduct a ZIP code consolidation study.
