Princeton residents have two opportunities to give critically needed blood next week through to the combined efforts of the Princeton Regional Health Department and the University Medical Center at Princeton's Blood Donor Program.
Because summer is a time when blood supplies often reach dangerously low levels, the hospital and health department have banded together to offer two days and two locations where residents can go to donate blood. They are:
- Tuesday, July 31, 9 a.m. to noon, Princeton Borough Hall, 1 Monument Dr., lower level.
- Friday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to noon, Princeton Township Hall, 369 Witherspoon St., community room.
Regular, unpaid volunteer donors are the mainstay of a safe and sustainable blood supply, according to the Health Department. Anyone from 17 to 70 years of age in good health, including those taking medications, can donate blood. Questions may be directed to (609) 497-4366.
In a statement, the Health Department noted: "Blood donation is both a civic and personal responsibility, and becoming a blood donor is one of the highest forms of volunteerism. The reward - a coupon for a free pint of ice cream from Thomas Sweet Ice Cream -is very nice, indeed, but not half so nice as thinking about the lives you may have saved by taking one hour out of your day to do something for someone else."
Potential donors are asked to call the Health Department at (609) 497-4366 during normal business hours.
