A neighbor of mine recently worked with Dan Detweiler who created custom-built, maple, stained, cabinets needed to accommodate two computer workstations and additional built-in storage, both beneath and overhead.
After viewing the quality wood, exceptional craftsmanship with dove-tailed drawers and carpentry that was beyond impressive, the finished product will satisfy the most discriminating buyer.
Dan will use whatever wood species, stain, etc., that a consumer desires.
If that alone were not enough, the prices are very, very competitive, in fact, my estimation is they are more price competitive than the big box stores and the quality of Detweiler cabinetry is far superior.
Dan also brought the cabinets on site and installed. The crown molding was expertly mitered and his nailing solution was almost invisible to the naked eye, the owner had to point out where the finish nail went, it was literally almost invisible.
Now...what was the question? Quality and price do not need to be at odds for a savvy consumer who knows how to find high-quality, competitively priced service providers.
Please note: I do not receive anything from Detweiler Cabinets for writing this post. In fact, I haven't met them, but have simply seen their finished product in a neighbor's home.
Since they are located in Garrettsville, Ohio, anyone in Northern Ohio would be well served by their long-standing tradition of building custom cabinetry.
