Goodbye, Texas Stadium!

A Dallas legend, Texas Stadium in Irving was demolished today. Home to the Dallas Cowboys since 1971, America's Team left the stadium last year for the brand new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington (a.k.a. "Jerry World").

For those of us who call Dallas home, it will be a sad day whenever I next drive out through Irving on 114 and see for myself that Texas Stadium is really gone. Of course, like everyone else, I complained about how old and dirty the stadium was, but it still housed a lot of my childhood memories. I remember my dad taking me to Cowboys games there when I was little. When I was a teenager, I went to Marcus High School, and our "Battle of the Axe" varsity football rivalry against Lewisville High School grew so large that our annual rivalry games were played at Texas Stadium. Another rivalry game with newer Flower Mound High School was also played there.

I will continue to go to Cowboys games and concerts at the new Cowboys Stadium, but a little piece of my childhood is buried in that rubble in Irving, and I won't soon forget the memories made in Texas Stadium throughout my lifetime!

Fellow Dallasites, do you have any memories of Texas Stadium you'd like to share?
