Do You Have a Happy Dance?

Education & Training with Sell with Soul

Last weekend, we had a free teleseminar show in the SWS Virtual Studio called "Getting UNStuck." It was co-hosted by me and my good friend Borino, and was about, among other things, regaining your mood and your mojo when this business threatens to get you down. Fun stuff (actually, it was).

During the show, Borino asked for a volunteer from the audience to help him demonstrate a little exercise to help you reset your mood when it's not what it needs to be. Basically, he put our lovely volunteer (thank you Camille!) into a funk by asking her to recall a recent event that got her down.

He then snapped her out of her funk by abruptly changing the subject and then asking her to recall a recent event that made her happy. She was instructed to take herself back to that moment when she was feeling the happiness - how it felt, sounded, smelled, looked, etc. When she was "there" he asked her to express her happiness in some physical way - for example... the soccer player's arms-in-the-air dance, Tiger Woods' fist pump - anything physical that felt natural to her.

Camille confirmed (and we in the audience could hear it in her voice) that her mood improved dramatically and immediately.

Borino explained that the point of the exercise was to help find a physical "anchor" that you can call upon when you're feeling down. As I understand it (and please correct me if I'm not getting this quite right), DOING that natural physical expression of happiness when you aren't happy and energized can actually reset your mood so that you ARE happy and energized again.

I, quite cleverly, referred to this physical expression of happiness as your Happy Dance.

Anyway, we in the audience were instructed to do the Happy Dance exercise along with Camille. I, being a co-host and all, declined to participate since obviously I have it all together and don't need such (as Borino calls it) "airy-fairy" techniques ;-]

FADE OUT

Well, Sunday morning I was feelin' kinda down. My stomach hurt, my fun plans for the day were threatened and I was behind on a project I really needed to have finished already. BLAH. So, while in the shower deciding whether or not to shave my legs (I didn't), I decided to give this airy-fairy stuff a try. I did my own little Happy Dance right there in the shower.

Wow. Wow. Holy Moly.

I got a rush of energy I didn't imagine I had in me. Got out of the shower, turned up the stereo full blast, continued dancing around the house getting ready for my wonderful, fabulous and productive day, scribbled down some ideas for articles and blogs, hugged the dogs, noticed my stomach didn't hurt anymore and headed out the door to begin my wonderful, fabulous and productive day.

And a wonderful, fabulous, productive day it was.

Do you have a Happy Dance? Okay... 1, 2, 3, GO!

How do you feel now?

Great show on Saturday. I got a lot out of it. I have been trying the be nice to ten people idea since Saturday. It works great. I have not done the Happy Dance yet, but I will give it a try.

I listen to my set of music, loud and boldly in my car prior to getting to my appointment. I also pray and discern what God wants me to do for these clients.

JA - I have to ask if it was ABBA, the "Dancing Queen"? I'll admit it, it's one of my favorites!

If I can't figure out my own happy dance, I just have to ask my 6 year old son to do a dance for me and I will split my side laughing - he exemplifies carefree joy. Just laughing at something funny you remember can snap your mood back to the positive side too. Oh, and THANK YOU so much for the Peanuts dancing clip - love the "Running Man" kid!

Oh, sweetie....thanks so much for writing this post.  I have been a funk all day....you wouldn't believe the LL34  I've dealt with over the last month...But I still have my happy dance.  And, I do it on a regular basis whenever I feel the stress....all the music is in a file on my computer.  And, boy, I really have a blast.  The Peanuts sequence is one of my favorites.

Loves and kisses for this post.  You made my day......

Thank YOU Suzanne! What's LL34? Haven't heard that one. Today shall be much better!

Cari - I'm that way with my dogs - if they're "dancing" around being happy, I can't help but be.

Kevin - How weird you ask that! Yes - Dancing Queen was one of the songs I had blasting on my stereo and it's my Top 20 Favorite Songs of all time! Cause it makes me happy...

Lori - even better - can you imagine all the good vibes that would come of it? Maybe offices should do a weekly happy dance instead of a boring weekly meeting!

William - my thought exactly...

Loreena - I love that! "Loudly and Boldly!"

Tom - I'd love to hear more about how your assignment is working out for you.

Sally & David - I have a CD I made for myself about 5 years ago - it's seriously labeled "Happy Songs." I took it out over the weekend and have been playing it over and over... can't get enough of that happy stuff!

Sounds like a great idea just wondered how the dogs felt if you rubbed those unshaven legs on them.

...Marketing your home like no one else will.

I happy dance when I get a contact accepted and when I close a transaction.  It tradition now.  When I happy dance in the office, he knows there is good news.  If my broker isn't there to join in, (well really he never does the happy dance, but he accepts it as part of the process)  I email him or call him to let him know it's happy dance time.

I do have a happy dance and I practice it regularly, it really does improve my mood and those around me. I've been known to break out in song in the grocery store or dance down the street. It gives some people pause for thought but insites others to smile.

Oh, I loved your show, it has changed my life dramatically. It's amazing how emotional this career truly is. Even after 15 years of experience Camille still feels the disappointment of a deal falling through for one reason or another. I thought that someday I would grow out of it! So, now I feel better knowing it's not something a human being can grow out of, we just have to re-direct that energy. Reminds me of the Dog Whisperer saying you have to stop the pattern of behavior, kind of snap out of the funk and the happy dance can snap anyone out of it! Create an anchor and Ahoy Matey, you are out of it! THANK YOU JENNIFER AND BORINO!

I call my dance - my Peter Pan thoughts.

Remember?  Peter Pan and the Lost Boys could not fly without their Happy Thoughts

Whenever I am feeling down, in the thick of something I don't like, in the last leg of a work out or even on the tennis courts and things aren't working out the way I want, I just call up my Happy Thoughts and then I am soaring again!

Have a wonderful Sunday!
