Rodger Duncan tomatoes

Does he ever look happy!  He grew these tomatoes.  I don't remember the exact year and I don't know whether we ate them because he's holding onto them for dear life.  He tried last year to achieve this feat again and failed.  We poked fun at him.

This year it is time to try again.  He's growing tomatoes in Searcy Arkansas but his plan is to get out of that vacant lot where the deer (@#$!%!@# deer as he calls them) ate all his tomatoes before we could get them mature on the vine.  In fact the deer ate the plants too!

This year he found two fantastic (in his opinion) old red containers and placed the containers in the flower beds and he has carefully planted three plants in each one of the containers.  The tomato plants are  placed exactly in a triangle so that they will have ample room to grow.

We'll see.  No hair has been brought to the tomato plants yet but he probably hasn't had time.  Golf beckons and he has to go when it calls.  I must admit that I hope he is successful.  I'd love some fresh home-grown tomatoes.

The tomato stories from last year are below in case you care to catch up.  The picture above was several years ago and he was a pretty good-looking guy, wasn't he..........

I love tomatoes, I really love them. We lost all ours last year due to the weather and tomato blight. I cried for days.... because I love tomatoes. This year I have 2 of the grow your maters upside down bags. The garden has been plowed, the manure is in a pile up at the barn waiting to come down and be spread. It has been "maturing" and getting ready to put on this years crop since last fall.

I can hardly wait.... and if our maters fail again, I guess I could hop in the car and drive to Searcy AR, that is, if I can pry the tomatoes out of the Tomato King's grip!

Good luck on an awesome crop!

I'm going to try and grow tomatoes this year for the first time in my life. I'll take any advice I can get, and will remember the triangles. If they don't have time to ripen, no problem... I love fried green tomatoes!

Godmother,

You look young enough to be this man's daughter. He looks very youthful but not compared to my Godmother.

Andrea, I do believe you're worse than my husband.  I do hope he and you both have success.  I'm doing the old southern thing of "keeping my fingers crossed."

Charles, his golfing takes up a lot of time and it is his favorite thing to do.  He also keeps an eye out for people who have gardens and he knows they'll probably have successful tomatoes.  He beats down their door trying to buy some.

Ruth, spoken like a true Southern girl.  Fried green tomatoes are wonderful!  I want some right now.  Good luck with your first tomatoe attempt.

Steven, that godson had better not stay out too late.

Kate, wonder if I could get Nutsy to just come here and guard the patch?

Charles, whose garden if that????   He could get an electric fence too.  I have a client who has an electric fence around her garden to keep out the deer.

Nutsy, you're scheming again.  What do you want?  When godsons start paying compliments they're guilty of some staying-out-too-late sinning or they want to borrow some money or be put in the will. So 'fess us.  What did you do???  : (

Charles, I believe that ugly bird of yours said it right this time.  Nutsy has been up to something....

Barbara:  I just love tomatoes as well.  About a year ago I did a blog post just going on and on about how much I loved tomatoes.  Maybe I should find the post, and re-work it.  Fresh tomatoes... Yum !

Godmother,

No, simply a compliment. As you have heard, I expect to have 10.3 million dollars deposited into my personal bank account, within the month, from a long lost relative, whom I never met, who left me a large sum at at the Bank of Nigeria. Mr Charles is so tiny minded that he would turn the Salvation Army into a massive spy agency in his fantasy view of the world.

Karen Anne, let's just revive all of our old tomato blogs and drool over what is coming very soon!  Fresh tomatoes!!

Nutsy, I knew you were up to something.  You think I'm going to fall for that old trick?  A Nigerian bank?  10.3 million?   Uh.....what's my cut in this deal?
