Real estate developer sentenced for fraud

ST. LOUIS | A suburban St. Louis real estate developer has been sentenced to more than two years in prison and ordered to pay $700,000 in restitution for a fraud scheme that also included his father.

The sentence for 30-year-old Brian Rickert of Creve Coeur was handed down in U.S. District Court on Monday.

The U.S. Attorney's office says the scheme took place in 2006 and 2007. Authorities say Rickert and his father, Gary, fraudulently obtained financing for several high-end homes in Ladue and Town & Country that they intended to rehab.

The men submitted fraudulent loan applications that included phony tax returns and profit-loss statements.

Gary Rickert will be sentenced on May 13.

It is also very interesting that the local Saint Louis Newspapers failed to report this story!

Caveat Emptor indeed.  But, even the most cautious person can get duped sometimes.
