Hi All!

I thought you would like to view this article about Tallahassee and Leon County.  I think this goes a long way to helping you see some of the opportunities Tallahassee has to offer.  It does not matter if you live in the NE, NW, SE, or SW of Tallahasssee, or any of the surrounding counties like Wakulla, Gadsden, Jefferson, or Franklin.

Tallahassee is one of the Nations best places to live and work.

Here is the Article:

Tallahassee has been named one of the top cities in the nation for business relocation by a national trade magazine for businesses actively considering expansion or relocation. Expansion Management magazine recently released its ninth annual "America's 50 Hottest Cities" list of best areas for companies to relocate. Out of the nation's 362 metro areas, Tallahassee was among five Florida cities making the list. Others include Jacksonville, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa Bay.

Key to this recognition are several process improvements initiated by the City of Tallahassee to help make the community more attractive for businesses. "We have made significant strides to make Tallahassee a top business destination," said Michael Parker, director of economic development. "We've developed relationships and instituted substantial changes to make the business environment easier and more beneficial for companies to successfully operate here."

Over the past five years the City has been working aggressively to improve the local climate for business development and recruitment. It now actively markets through trade shows and close collaborations with site selection consultants and Enterprise Florida. The City has also been working to institute reforms to help guide businesses and developers who choose to expand here, develop close relationships with community entities and reduce the time it takes to receive development permits.

Growth Management has instituted an expedited permit review process, saving time and money for developers. The department also began tracing its progress statistically during the past few years to track efficiency in the permitting process to make any needed adjustments.

"We have a highly educated workforce, sound infrastructure, young population and great resources within the community, such as top-notch research facilities. Couple all that with an outstanding quality of life, and Tallahassee becomes an extremely attractive place for relocating businesses," Parker said.

The variety and caliber of companies Tallahassee is currently attracting is reflective of the improvements. Danfoss Turbocor, an HVAC manufacturer of award winning oil-free centrifugal compressors, began operations here after relocating from Montreal in the fall of 2006. The City has been a finalist for several other company relocations including Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Science, a biotech firm out of La Jolla, Calif., and Vero Beach-based Piper Aircraft Inc., which is considering Tallahassee as a potential location for its new very light jets operation.

Expansion Management is a business magazine for executives of companies actively looking to expand or relocate their facilities. The magazine, published by Penton Media Inc., develops its "America's 50 Hottest Cities" list through a survey it conducts of prominent industry site location consultants. Factors considered in the survey include business climate, work force quality, operating costs, incentive programs and ease of working with local political and economic development officials. The list is published alphabetically and does not rank included cities in a numerical order.
