The 4 Paws Society is serious when they say Volunteer WORK day!
MK invited me to join her for an event at 4 Paws on The Bayou some months back. At the time I wrote a blog as I was quite impressed by the 4 Paws organization as well as the local Animal Coalition.
I was not aware, until reading this post, of the transport function of the 4 Paws Society.
Nor, until now, did I realize the number of dogs they had rescued in their first year.
This is so typical of the Lake Charles area! If you are moving here and want to be involved in animal rescue, you will find open arms.
I am EXHAUSTED and feeling quite the old lady right now!
Today, the 4 Paws Society held a Volunteer Work Day. While I am a dues-paying member, I had missed out on the work days, until today. I've seen the pictures on 4PawsSocietyInc.com and have been quite impressed with this all breed dog rescue group located right here in Southwest Louisiana.
One of the ways the 4 Paws Society has achieved such impressive results in their first year (419 dogs rescued) is by saving dogs locally that would have been euthanized and transporting them to another site which finds them forever-homes. Generally this is done through the ALR (Association of Labrador Retrievers, I think).
To achieve the transportation of 15-20 dogs at a time, the owners of the 4 Paws On the Bayou Pet Hotel lend their Pet Taxi. This is such a huge undertaking that I'm going to gather more information (and rest!) then post a separate blog as to the incredible volunteer effort that goes into this process.
For now, I'm pleased to report that because of today's efforts, the dogs that depart SW Louisiana will do so in a cleaner, improved pet-taxi thanks to the efforts of those who joined in the clean up today.
Once I receive from those taking photos, I'll post a few of them here.
